So very grateful to the reporting of Stacy Malkan at Right to Know! AGRA is celebrating 20 years this week in Kigali, but research shows that they've failed on multiple levels:

"Data undercut the Green Revolution’s theory of change

The data call into question a central premise of the Green Revolution’s model: that boosting agricultural productivity is a reliable path to reducing hunger.

Malawi, one of AGRA’s strongest performers, recorded a 78% increase in staple-crop yields between 2006 and 2024, yet the number of chronically undernourished people there rose 61%.

Population growth accounts for part of the increase in hunger, but the stark divergence underscores a larger point that critics of the Green Revolution have raised from the start: producing more food does not necessarily translate into less hunger when people cannot afford or access it.

In Kenya, home to AGRA’s headquarters, farmers describe a punishing cycle: rising spending on fertilizer and commercial seeds even as heavy fertilizer use contributes to soil acidification. Wise’s analysis finds that staple crop yields there have fallen 8% since AGRA began while the number of undernourished Kenyans has more than doubled."

AGRA promised to double African crop yields. Two decades and $1.5 billion later, new data shows yield growth lagged and hunger climbed 58%.

Speaking out about AGRA's destructive impact these past 20 years of their so-called green revolution!

Speaking out about AGRA's destructive impact these past 20 years of their so-called green revolution!

Great interview with Tim Wise and Mutinta Nketani for the 20th anniversary of the Gates-funded 'Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa', highlighting what a failure it has been.

In August CAGJ co-hosted the 2026 Art & Revolution Convergence at Vashon Green School on Seedbees Farm, and it was incredible! CAGJ members gathered with leaders of La Resistencia and Jewish Voice for Peace-Seattle for five days of community-building and workshops, producing beautiful art for our protests, while learning the skills to pass on to others. We learned so much and had so much fun with our artist facilitators,
David Solnit & Julie Searle from Berkeley, California,Jo Redline from Santa Fe, New Mexico and Dana Schuerholz, founder of Vashon Green Vashon Green School. A mighty Farm Crew prepared our meals and took great care of us.

CAGJ built two giant puppets and smaller puppets of bees, silkscreened flags, and painted a new banner to protest the Gates Foundation's destruction of land and farmers in Africa and to uplift the Food Sovereignty movement's solutions!

Stay tuned for more art-builds and actions coming up this Fall.

While AGRA celebrates 20 years since their founding, CAGJ and our partners around the world are marking this anniversary by calling out their failures and uplifting our African partners' calls for justice! Shout out to SAFCEI for their call to The Gates Foundation to pay reparations for the damages they've incurred. Africa does not need a "green revolution" - they have the solutions to hunger and poverty at their fingertips, but Gates will never listen.

🐟 Industrial aquaculture brings with it the environmental, social and economic devastation that is becoming increasingly intolerable, particularly for local coastal communities. The latest Nyéléni newsletter for Food Sovereignty sets the stage for a major global campaign against this disastrous model. https://nyeleni.org/en/category/newsletters-nyeleni-in-english/newsletter-no-65-against-the-tide-of-industrial-aquaculture-soon/ World Forum of Fisher Peoples - WFFP FIAN International ETC Group Transnational Institute

Tomorrow SAT 8/29 We will hold a final art build, 1am - 3pm, in West Seattle.
WED SEPT 2, 5:30-6:30 we need 15-20 people to help with street theater at Columbia City Farmers Market

We are taking action now bc all of next week, Gates & AGRA are celebrating 20 years of pushing the green revolution/GMO's/chemical destruction of the land! We need to show that there is solidarity in the 🩷of the beast!
