The National Low Income Housing Coalition has created a map of how much your hourly wage must be to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment in each state.

It is no surprise that Washington ranks as one of the highest – 7th highest in the country. One must work 86 or more hours a week at the current minimum wage ($17.13/hour) or make at least $39.84 an hour to afford this.

This is simply not sustainable.

This day commemorates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment - women’s constitutional right to vote. It’s over one hundred years later, and we are still in the continual fight for equality: in education, the workplace, access, everywhere.

Bella Abzug, the former Congresswoman from the 70s, who championed for Women’s Equality Day said it best:

“Women's struggle for equality worldwide is about more than equality between men and women. Our struggle is about reversing the trends of social, economic, political, and ecological crisis - a global nervous breakdown! Our struggle is about creating sustainable lives and attainable dreams.”

Sounds to us like Jubilee’s mission is perfectly suited for working towards creating sustainable lives and attainable dreams.

Do you know about our FREE clothing boutique?

Jubilee’s free boutique is a vital resource for ANY woman with low income in our area. Women can make appointments to "shop" for clothing and accessories with dignity and hope for their future.
