Thank You for Helping Meet the Moment!

With help from donations large and small, we raised more than enough during to claim all of the matching funds offered by two foundations, and then some! As of this week, you all supported the cost of materials for nearly 25 more tiny homes making this our most successful giving event ever!

The Seattle City and King County administrations have both launched ambitious shelter expansion plans that endorse quickly expanding solutions that are already in place and working – like tiny homes and villages. This is what we’ve been advocating since 2018.

Thanks so much to all of you who donated, talked about us, and helped spread the word, and also to our two foundation partners, the Beeks Family Legacy Foundation and the Brettler Family Foundation, for their confidence in all of our volunteers and in the tiny home solution. Thank You!

Thank you for helping meet this moment while the momentum is with us. Your actions on behalf of our homeless neighbors mean more and more folks sleeping inside where it’s warm, safe, and dry. Thank you! Now let’s go build those homes …

Keeping in mind that this video is from 2018, it’s a great explanation of the and tiny home village model for sheltering those who need it. Those stories of the residents who shared them back then, are repeated again and again throughout the years. Sadly, the problem has only gotten worse. In 2026, True Hope village still operates in Seattle’s Central District, one of a total of 20 Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI)-run tiny house villages in the greater Seattle area, plus several others run by Chief Seattle Club, Nickelsville, Catholic Community Services, and others. See a map of approximate village locations on our website.

So glad to see tiny homes built by our volunteers placed out in the community and protecting vulnerable people, like children. Keep it up King County Regional Homelessness Authority!

We are excited to highlight a Tiny Home Village (THV) opening in our area serving a population who are not typically residents of tiny homes: families with children. This site in Tukwila will be hosted by Church By the Side of the Road, operated by the Low Income Housing Institute and co-administered by KCRHA & the City of Tukwila - Government. It will provide 40 units of Sound Foundations NW -built tiny homes and will be a critical step forward in diversifying our region’s homelessness solutions. We couldn’t agree more DESC. Although we only contribute to the shelter side of the equation, we know that permanent, and permanently affordable, housing with supportive services where necessary, needs to be the end goal. Not only is it the right, just, and dignified goal for every neighbor who wants it, it also means that the shelter system stays available for those who would otherwise find themselves on the street. Our entire Puget Sound community deserves a housing safety net system that meets the needs of all of us.

DESC welcomes the City of Seattle Government’s and King County, Washington - Government’s efforts to expand shelter capacity and invest in a more robust, responsive homelessness response system.

Our community needs both immediate and long-term solutions, and that means investing in high-support shelter while also stabilizing and expanding permanent supportive housing.

It is not “shelter versus housing”— it is both.

Learn how DESC is partnering in this work by providing both emergency housing and permanent supportive housing, both paired with comprehensive behavioral and medical health services:
