TOOJENG! LABAN! ICYMI: on Saturday August 15, also known as Liberation Day, BAYAN Washington joined Haebang Collective Nodutdol 노둣돌 ILPS Seattle-Tacoma in Seattle Center, echoing the call of the Korean people, including their diaspora, to struggle for national liberation.

As Filipinos fighting for our national democratic future in the homeland, we raise our fists high in solidarity with the people of Korea who are calling for an end to the military exercises and use of their land as a giant aircraft carrier! We oppose our mutual enemy in U.S. imperialism and the traitors of the Filipino people like Marcos Jr. and Romualdez who willingly facilitate the exploitation, plunder and militarization of the Philippines to the highest bidder for their own gain.

Long live the solidarity in struggle of the Korean and Filipino people!

CONTEXT: The Trump administration's 2000 a day daily detention quota continues to ravage our communities as detention numbers reach unprecedented highs - the Department of Homeland Security reported 51,000 detention arrests in July alone. Migrants are continuing to be targeted every day in various ways: at citizenship interviews, while driving to work, and returning home from vacation. These arbitrary and violent arrests, in the worst cases, have resulted in death, as in the case of Lorenzo and Johan. Migrant workers are the most impacted in being swept into the detention and deportation system impacting not only themselves but their families, coworkers, and communities.

Through August and September, there are multiple activities and actions to engage our communities in to take collective action for and share stories of the community members who are being impacted by Trump's 2000 a day detention quota. Included in this is the 2000 a day campaign storytelling campaign (see resources below), where we invite members to share the stories, photos, and character of your family, neighbors, co-workers, students, friends, and loved ones impacted and through this collective storytelling we will change the narrative of who is facing these attacks and demand an end to this dangerous quota.

Please join together for these various activities to show the collective strength of our migrant communities and its allies. The people united will never be defeated!

Today, on August 15th, Anakbayan South Seattle spoke on behalf of BAYAN Washington at the National Day of Action to demand US Out of Korea! Stop the Forever Wars! End the Ulchi Freedom Shield war games!

The US says its military presence in Korea keeps the peace, and every summer, tens of thousands of US troops occupy the peninsula to rehearse war. Across the Pacific, the US is building a NATO-like military bloc through war exercises, partnering with Japan, Australia, and New Zealand to pressure countries like South Korea and the Philippines into forming military alliances and pushing the region closer to catastrophe.

While working people struggle with debt, housing crises, inflation, and attacks on public services, our governments are spending record amounts on war. We cannot allow our communities to be drained and used to justify endless war.

MEMBERS OF MIGRANTE AND BAYAN RESPOND TO THE SEATTLE CONSULATE FORCIBLY REMOVING US FROM KUYA J’S MEETING

Consul General Henry Bensurto Jr. interrupted Kuya J’s meeting with an ATN officer, threatening to call the police, and ordering the removal of Kuya J’s supporters from the Consulate - all while offering no genuine assistance.

From his actions, it is clear that Bensurto is more interested in keeping up appearances over real action or accountability to his position as a public servant.

His true interests stand as a bureaucrat capitalist and lapdog of the US-Marcos regime.

In contrast, BAYAN Washington will persevere in our campaigns for justice for exploited and oppressed Filipino migrants that Bensurto refuses to serve.

JUSTICE FOR KUYA J!

JUSTICE FOR TRINITY CAREGIVERS!

Anakbayan South Seattle extends firm solidarity with the ongoing ILWU Local 6 worker strikes at the Crockett C&H refinery that has built strong community-worker solidarity not only for the port and refinery workers, but for peasant sugarcane farmers facing repression in the Philippines. Since June 15, warehouse workers have been fighting the company's anti-worker plans, refusing a contract that would significantly reduce sick pay, overtime wages, health and retirement benefits. As part of the National Democratic mass movement overseas, we firmly support the union in their fight to defend workers rights and livelihood. We as youth and students are united in the fight against a company that profits both from the violent exploitation of sugar-producing semi-colonies like the Philippines, and from the neglect of workers locally.

No Contract, No Sugar! Fair Contract for Local 6 Now!
From Negros to Crockett: Put people over profit!

Kabuhayan, Hindi Bala! Livelihood, not bullets!
Justice for the Negros 19!

FREE KUYA NESTOR! FREE THEM ALL!
Tanggol Migrante, Defend Migrants Alliance and our union siblings woke up bright and early to call for Kuya Nestor’s freedom from the Northwest Detention Center! While Kuya’s hearing is delayed by the overwhelm of Trump’s 2,000/day detainment quota and the bureaucracy of the immigration justice system, the family and community remain hopeful because we are linked together and united as one to fight for Kuya, the 8 other Filipinos in detention and countless other migrants like Garnet facing rampant violence and medical neglect inside the NWDC. Kuya’s fight for justice and freedom is inspiring others to fight, such as 76-year-old Tatay Loreto and his family who were able to listen into the rally today.

As we continue to fight for Kuya Nestor and our kababayan, we demand immediate diplomatic intervention from the PH Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez and for the release of Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Funds from the Seattle Consulate. Let us continue to unite and organize to free the migrants, free them all, and assert for genuine solutions for Filipino people’s facing hardship at home and overseas.

Defend Filipino Migrant Workers!
Free Kuya Nestor! Free Tay Loreto! Free them all!
Romualdez, Bensurto: Face the People! Intervene now!
Makibaka, huwag matakot!
