CONTEXT: The Trump administration's 2000 a day daily detention quota continues to ravage our communities as detention numbers reach unprecedented highs - the Department of Homeland Security reported 51,000 detention arrests in July alone. Migrants are continuing to be targeted every day in various ways: at citizenship interviews, while driving to work, and returning home from vacation. These arbitrary and violent arrests, in the worst cases, have resulted in death, as in the case of Lorenzo and Johan. Migrant workers are the most impacted in being swept into the detention and deportation system impacting not only themselves but their families, coworkers, and communities.
Through August and September, there are multiple activities and actions to engage our communities in to take collective action for and share stories of the community members who are being impacted by Trump's 2000 a day detention quota. Included in this is the 2000 a day campaign storytelling campaign (see resources below), where we invite members to share the stories, photos, and character of your family, neighbors, co-workers, students, friends, and loved ones impacted and through this collective storytelling we will change the narrative of who is facing these attacks and demand an end to this dangerous quota.
Please join together for these various activities to show the collective strength of our migrant communities and its allies. The people united will never be defeated!
