Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden

Connecting the community to nature through a diverse and beautiful collection of historical gardens.

HSBG was created in 2000 using historically significant private gardens saved from demolition by the expansion of the SeaTac Int'l Airport's construction of their 3rd runway. Between these two full-featured collections lie an eye-catching series of beds sponsored by local garden enthusiasts, including the Puget Sound Daylily Club, the King County Iris Society, and the Seattle Rose Society.

Visit the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden during the PNW's peak fall color display, this year predicted to be October 29-November 7, 2026 in South Seattle. As the intensely colored leaves begin to drop, notice the intricate, branching architecture of the many Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) specimens in the garden, particularly in and around the Seike Garden.

Then, stop in to the SeaTac Community Center for the City of SeaTac's Welcoming Week event. This is a day filled with community, culture, connection, and activities for all ages. Whether you come to enjoy the cultural entertainment, try food from around the world, learn about community resources, support local businesses, or simply spend time with your neighbors, we hope you'll join us.

Fall is for apple picking and the PNW season officially opens later this month! Next time you walk through the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden, notice the tree netting work done by our volunteers and apple orchard managing partner . According to WA State University, the main benefit of protective tree netting is the improvement in fruit quality through sunburn reduction. Other benefits include a reduction in hail damage, wind damage, bird and insect pests, and an increase in water savings.

Please don't pick or eat the apples in our orchard–this fruit will be harvested and donated to local food banks and meal programs. Instead, visit these profiles to find out where you can pick apples in your area this month:

Visit the garden this month to see the Puget Sound Fuchsia Society Garden in full bloom. Enjoy multiple specimens exhibiting flowers ranging in size, color, and texture. These long blooming perennials work well in hanging baskets or containers and when planted in the ground can grow into large, easy to maintain shrubs.

Reeanna is an operations and community engagement leader with 15+ years of experience managing vendors, compliance, events, and organizational systems across nonprofit, government, and consulting environments. She is known for bringing order to complex
systems while building trusted relationships with people. Reeanna is a passionate gardener, beekeeper, and longtime supporter of the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden community. We wish her a warm welcome!

Our summer Concert Market series was a huge success this month and we are grateful to our partners, performers, and visitors for collaborating to create a vibrant event full of connection and community.

Late summer blooms are still going strong at the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden and the pond in the Seike Garden is full of water again. Please note, the Celebration Rose Garden lawn is closed this month for re-seeding.
