Good morning and happy Friday. No real news on this end as we continue to work through things but did want to update the status of Engine 82, our 2009 Seagrave. Our neighbors over in Ritchie (Engine Company 37) were the recipient of this apparatus. A few things went into the decision including their willingness to help us once the county made the decision not to let us move to shady glen, their Seagrave nearing its end of life by county standards and the fact they are a nearby department that would continue to allow 82 to run the streets it had served for over 10 years. The unit went into service on October 4th as E837 still carrying the M00082 designation. Its first run was a gas leak on Limerick Way in Summerfield up by the Commanders Stadium. Today it ran its first working fire as E837 in its old stomping grounds on Cedarleaf Ave just off Seat Pleasant Dr. E837 and E837B ran 3rd and 4th due engines on the assignment. It was good to see her find her way home and I’m sure she was happy as well being back in Carmody Hills. Thanks to Ritchie for letting her continue doing what she does in a familiar area. Looking forward to seeing more.

Happy Sunday everyone. One of our life members and past chiefs shared this photo today from Ocean City (its convention week). Four past chiefs and one of our nemesis’s, past Chief 26 😂. Just kidding, Tommy is good people. Happy to see our past leaders still getting together on occasion, we owe them a lot. Be safe everyone.

A video of Engine 83 leaving the engine house for the last time and it’s last turn onto eastbound Central Ave. That jake brake is like music to our ears.

Good evening everyone. Yesterday we said goodbye to our 1995 Eone, Engine 83. It was sold to the Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department in Botetourt County located in southwestern Virginia. Their department is 100% volunteer and has been serving their community since 1947. Recently due to maintenance issues and emergency repairs they had been short apparatus and had been borrowing an engine from a neighboring department. They saw our engine for sale, came up and checked it out, got approval for the purchase and rode away with it all in a week.

Engine 83 served our department for 26 years and responded to thousands of runs and countless fires. We hated to see her go but glad she gets to continue serving another department although her surroundings will look much different 😬. We hope Company 4 gets some good use out of the engine and takes good care of her and we’d like to check in on her every now and then and visit. Maybe send some pictures of her in action (we’re like a proud parent).

It was an emotional day but we grabbed a few pics to document the last two engines the company will own before 83 left.

PS - no, the Seagrave is not for sale.

Good morning everyone and happy Friday. Flashback Friday if you will. There’s been a lot of pictures shared over the past few weeks of our days of yore and we’ve been collecting them. So enjoy this photo dump and share any memories you may have, explain the pictures, name past members etc. If you also have old pictures that we haven’t shared yet, post those too or send them to us. Stay safe out there (and cool).

Good morning and happy Monday to everyone. Found a few pictures floating around on the internet so figure we’d share with our followers. Good to see some of the past members and employees that shaped our 100 + year history. Be safe out there.

One of our members introduced us to this program and we were more than happy to help. We had a lot of excess equipment that we weren’t going to be able to use anymore and decided it should be put to good use somewhere. It’s easy to take for granted all of the equipment departments, especially in the DMV, get with ease. Most of it is state of the art or the newest thing available but there are A LOT of departments who aren’t as fortunate and are lacking equipment just to be able to do the basics of our job. Although our situation is unfortunate, it’s good to see some good coming out of it for someone else. Stay safe.
