Graduate study at the University of Michigan offers an opportunity to engage in research that explores and shapes the world around us. The Earth & Environmental Sciences Ph.D. program invites junior and senior undergraduate students, particularly from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in sciences, to visit us for a preview event. The event, from November 12-14, 2015, is an all-expenses paid opportunity to explore these two Ph.D. Programs, participate in admissions workshops, meet and interview with faculty members and current graduate students in your field of study. Students in the Earth and Environmental Sciences and from the associated fields of Chemistry, Biology, and Physics are encouraged to apply to learn what a Michigan Ph.D. could mean for you.

The Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers & Children Of Salinas is offering an internship opportunity!!!

POSITION DESCRIPTION: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH INTERN

Description: The Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers and Children of Salinas (CHAMACOS) is a public health research study investigating the effects of environmental exposures in the Salinas
Valley on children’s health, growth, and development. CHAMACOS is a partnership between the University of California at Berkeley, Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas, and Natividad Medical Center. CHAMACOS provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and explore interests in environmental health education and promotion. We are currently seeking an undergraduate student to assist with the development and implementation of Proyecto La Semilla. This project is funded by the California EPA to provide pesticide safety workshops to migrant parents in eight California counties. The primary objective of Proyecto La Semilla is to empower farmworkers to become pesticide safety educators, and to conduct presentations in their communities concerning pesticide exposure prevention, with a special focus on protecting children.

Thanks for attending our first meeting. For all of you that were not able to attend, today we emphasized the importance of research for undergraduate students. Here are some of the questions we discussed with the new members of the CSUMB SACNAS Chapter.

1. What is research and why is this important?
2. How to get into research?
3. How do I choose my research field?

Thanks for participating by asking great questions! We hope to see you all again at our next meeting. If you have any other questions feel free to send us a message and don't forget to like our page!
