SEAL ROCK, Oregon - On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Seal Rock Rural Fire District responded to a 911 call for aid. On arrival they found that the patient was one of their long-time volunteers and had not survived the event.

The fallen firefighter has been identified as Bill Kenworthy, a 76-year-old man from Seal Rock, Oregon. Bill leaves behind a wife, children, extended family, and his fire family. He served as a volunteer firefighter in the Seal Rock Rural Fire District since 1998.

Seal Rock Fire District leadership and membership are actively communicating with, and supporting the family, and funeral services are pending. As the District works to support the grieving family and our firefighters, we will not be releasing any additional information or conducting interviews at this time.

Fire Chief Will Ewing said, “Bill Kenworthy was a great man. He did everything he could to help others. His heart was that of a giver, and that is what he did. I love this group of people comprising Seal Rock fire, and I will be here to support you.”

Bill’s family is requesting privacy at this time as they grieve his loss. Memorial service details will be released in due time.

Seal Rock Fire District starts Knox Box Program

A Knox Box is a small, wall-mounted safe that holds building keys for firefighters and EMTs to retrieve in emergency situations. A Knox Box can also cut fire losses for building owners since firefighters can enter buildings without breaking doors or windows. It can also reduce the potential of a firefighter being injured forcing entry.

This program is now available in the Seal Rock Fire District. It is the building owners responsibility to purchase the box for their business or home. Firefighters will lock your building/home keys in the box using their master key. To purchase a box, go online to www.knoxbox.com and click "Buy". Follow the prompts selecting "Oregon", then "Seal Rock Fire District". This will allow you choose choose the box and size. In addition to boxes, they also offer gate padlocks and key operated gate openers, all which are operated by the master key the firefighters carry.

If you have specific questions about the program, call the admin office at Seal Rock Fire District at 541-563-4441.
