The Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department participates in the Texas Emergency Services Retirement System(TESRS), providing a lifelong pension benefit for our dedicated members.
TESRS traces its roots to Senate Bill 411, authored by Senator Grant Jones and sponsored by Representative Dan Kubiak during the 65th Texas Legislature. Signed into law by Governor Dolph Briscoe in 1977, the legislation created the Statewide Volunteer Fire Fighters' Relief and Retirement Fund, providing Texas volunteer firefighters with one of the first statewide retirement systems in the nation.
To qualify for TESRS, a member must actively serve for 15 years, maintaining the required training and response participation standards. Once vested, members become eligible to receive retirement benefits at age 55.
As required by the system, the City of Seabrook serves as our sponsoring governing entity, allowing our members to participate in this valuable retirement program.
Today, we are proud to have 15 current and former members receiving these well earned benefits in recognition of their years of dedicated service to the citizens of Seabrook and El Lago.
