This Thursday the Belmar and Sea Girt Lifeguards are co sponsoring a memorial row in honor of Jack Roberts who passed away this year. Jack served the Borough of Belmar as a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Captain, and Assistant Chief Lifeguard from 1966 through 1989 and became the beach manager in Sea Girt in 1990 until his retirement in 1995. Jacks fierce love of rowing and competition is still alive today through those that worked for and with him and that legacy continues to be passed along to younger staff. This is not a race but a memorial to enjoy a great workout. This is open to any and all surf boats, kayaks, surf skis, and rescue boards.

The row will begin at 6pm at the 18th ave beach in Belmar and will finish traveling south towards Sea Girt at the North end of town (Beacon Blvd. Beach). Access to the sand and water in Belmar is accessible via the 20th avenue ramp and can be coordinated with Belmar Beach Patrol 732.681.3700 ext 390. Boats and crafts finishing in Sea Girt also have sand access for trailers and can be coordinated through Sea Girt Beach Patrol 732.449.9335 ext 603. As the season is wishing down please join us for a fun time and a way to remember Jack’s contributions to lifesaving and competition. A t-shirt will be provided to all and after the event food and beverage will be served at the Parker House. Our thanks to some of his former SG Lifeguards Dave Moen, Armand Lembo, and Ron Pongrac for helping organize this.
