🚲 To celebrate World Bicycle Day on June 3, Lackawanna Heritage Valley will debut a new mini exhibit at LHVA headquarters: From High Wheels to Heritage Trails.

Created in collaboration with the The Lackawanna Historical Society , the display showcases two antique bicycles on loan from the Society — an 1880s Penny Farthing and an early women’s “safety bicycle.” The project was made possible by the dedication of Ella Rayburn, a longtime LHVA board member and champion of regional heritage preservation, who recently retired from the Board after years of service.

The exhibit highlights how cycling has evolved alongside the industrial landscapes, rail lines, and river valleys that shaped northeastern Pennsylvania — a tradition that lives on today along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, where thousands of riders each year enjoy the region at a human pace.

Visitors stopping by LHVA or joining upcoming meetings or tours are encouraged to check it out.
