Penn State Extension Master Gardeners in Lackawanna County Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by Penn State Cooperative Extension.

The mission of the Penn State Master Gardener volunteer program is to support the Penn State Cooperative Extension by utilizing research-based information to educate the public. Once they complete their training, Master Gardeners help Extension better serve
the home gardening public by answering questions, speaking to groups,
working with 4-H horticultural projects, participating in civic beautif

ication,
maintaining demonstration gardens, teaching plant sciences and horticulture,
maintaining this web site, and in many other ways.

Take a walk on the wild side and get to know your native trees!
Sign up for #301 Tree ID Class with Instructor Jim Kessler, retired Forester, and Master Gardner
This is a hands-on class designed to help the student identify common woodland species of trees, and a few shrubs. We will learn techniques, such as identfying features and nomenclature and what they mean. We will use leaves, stems, twigs, buds, tree shapes and habitat to identify 20 to 30 trees. Bring your tree book if you have one. Several will be available for use. Rain or shine. Dress for the weather and hiking footwear. The class will end at dark.
