Lackawanna County will co-host the Saint Joseph's Center Summer Kickoff Celebration & Family Fun Night at McDade Park on Monday, June 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event supports St. Joseph's Summer Festival and will feature ice cream, music, a fire safety house and more. Coordinating the event is, from left, Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation Frank Stevens, Marylou Grogan, Saint Joseph's Center President and CEO Sister Maryalice Jacquinot, and Commissioners Bill Gaughan, Chris Chermak and Thom Welby.

📢💦🛟 SPLASHPAD AND LAKES TO OPEN FRIDAY, JUNE 5

🏊 Aylesworth Park and Covington Park lakes will open Friday, June 5. Beaches are open seven days a week, dawn to dusk. Lifeguards will be on duty Thursday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For safety reasons, there is no fishing in the beach areas through Labor Day and pets are only allowed in the water outside of the swimming area. Park patrons are allowed to swim without lifeguards at their own risk. 🚧 A project to upgrade lakefront facilities at Merli-Sarnoski Park will close the beach once the project begins.

💦 The splashpad at McDade Park will open Friday, June 5, and will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The county is still in negotiations with a contractor to complete necessary repairs to the pool, but the goal is to open for the 2026 season once repairs are complete.

🎣🪝The Lackawanna County Parks & Recreation Department along with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission are hosting a 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧-𝗨𝗣 on Thursday, June 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at McDade Park, 1 Bald Mountain Road, Scranton.

This event is open to anyone interested in learning more about the basics of fishing. This is the perfect opportunity to socialize, learn and share experiences with other anglers. Equipment and bait is provided, but participants also may bring their own tackle. Kids under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦!🎵 🎭 The Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department is seeking artists, musicians and performing artists for 𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞, a free, annual summer series offering children's art activities, music and crafts. The program features workshops with local artists, face painting and entertainment from 10 a.m. to noon, with loads of family-friendly summer fun!

The Lackawanna County Parks & Recreation Department is teaming up with the Arts& Culture Department to introduce 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 program during this year's free 𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 series! The Artistic Athlete program encourages kids ages 4 to 12 to experiment with creativity and tenacity through a mix of art and sports activities like basketball, soccer, football, lacrosse and pickleball. 🏀🎾🏈⚽🥍 Questions? 🌎🌿The Lackawanna County Environmental Office, along with cosponsors and participants, will conduct an 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗗𝗔𝗬 observance Saturday, April 25, at McDade Park, 1 Bald Mountain Road, Scranton.

➡️ From 9 to 11 a.m., the Sierra Club will lead volunteers for a morning of cleanup and planting. Registration is required.
