Soldiers assigned to the 1-109th Infantry conducted a multi-day training exercise at Fort Indiantown Gap. The training was designed to enhance combat readiness and tactical proficiency across multiple Companies. The training conducted was squad and team live-fire exercises, allowing Soldiers to apply tactical movements and communication. Additional weapons training focused on the operation and employment of the MK19 gr***de launcher and 60mm mortar systems, reinforcing both individual skills and crew coordination. Soldiers also participated in MAT-V driver training to improve mobility and vehicle handling in operational environments.

Multiple training exercises were observed by senior leadership, including Brigadier General Lutz of the 28th Infantry Division and Command Sergeant Major Porter, who engaged with Soldiers and leaders to assess the effectiveness of the training. Upon completion of the training, Alpha Company conducted promotion ceremonies to recognize the achievements and professional growth of its Soldiers. Sgt. E5 Fishburn was promoted to E6 Staff Sergeant, E3 PFC Aswani was promoted to E4 Specialist, and Pvt. E2 Letosky was promoted to E3 Private First Class. The training and recognition events highlighted the unit’s continued focus on readiness, leadership development, and mission success to prepare for upcoming training events.

Soldiers assigned to the 1-109th Infantry Battalion conducted a multi-day training exercise to sharpen combat proficiency and strengthen unit cohesion as they prepare for upcoming annual training and potential deployments. Companies across the Battalion executed mission-essential tasks including M4 rifle qualification, M249 squad automatic weapon training, M320 gr***de launcher training, M500 shotgun familiarization, sniper operations, and the integration of drone support to enhance reconnaissance and battlefield awareness.

In addition to weapons proficiency and tactical development, the Battalion marked key leadership transitions. I Co conducted a change of command ceremony, formally transferring authority between commanders, while the Battalion held a change of responsibility ceremony to recognize the outgoing senior enlisted leader CSM Defoor and welcome the incoming CSM Cartwright. The combined focus on lethality, leadership continuity, and readiness reinforced the Battalion’s commitment to maintaining a disciplined, capable, and deployable force.

Once a year the 1-109th gather in celebration of the year and still carrying on the tradition of comradery. With both currently serving and former service members of the "Men of Iron" this year they gathered at the Holiday Inn in the small town of Dunmore, PA on the 12th of September 2025. The 109th has a long tradition of getting dirty and into the fight and trace their origins to 1877 for when the Scranton City Guards Battalion was constituted Headquarters in Scranton, PA. From participating in and earning honor in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe the World Wars. This leads to current day for recent deployments in the past score of Kuwait, Iraq, and Egypt. The 109th has also help the commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the Covid Pandemic.
