Fourth-year students from the Marywood University School of Architecture toured Scranton Fire Headquarters yesterday as part of their research for a fictional project to design a new fire station.

Fire Headquarters was built in 1905 and has remained operational ever since. Constructed using West Mountain stone and designed by architect Frederick L. Brown, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

Students learned about the function of a fire station, uses of the building as both a working and living space, required space for fire apparatus, how to integrate such buildings into the community, improvements focused on firefighter safety, and more.

In total, 54 students toured Fire Headquarters today. This is the third year Scranton Fire has hosted the Marywood University students for first-hand research for the unique design project.

In observance of Labor Day, City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 7 and will reopen on Tuesday, September 8 for regular business hours.

Due to the holiday, Monday's trash and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day, with collections beginning Tuesday, September 8.
