The WSCC Foundation provides financial support for many activities that benefit the college, its students, and the communities it serves and is actively working to build its endowment fund to provide additional scholarships for students desiring to attend the college. Last week, our Emergency Medical Services, Criminal Justice, and Nursing students came together for a large-scale, hands-on simulation based on a welding lab explosion. What followed was controlled chaos with purpose—EMS and CJ students responding on scene, triaging and transporting “victims,” and our Nursing students taking over care at the “hospital.”

More than 65 students participated, supported by 25+ volunteer actors and a dedicated team working behind the scenes to bring the scenario to life.

These experiences matter. They push students beyond the textbook and into real-world decision making, communication, and teamwork—skills they will rely on when it matters most.

We’re proud to partner with Wexford-Missaukee CTC in preparing the next generation of emergency responders. Congratulations to these outstanding students on earning their National Registry EMR certification—an impressive step toward careers in public safety.

Wexford-Missaukee CTC Students Earn National Registry
Emergency Medical Responder Certification

Four dedicated students have successfully earned their National Registry Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification through a partnership program with West Shore Community College, marking an important milestone in their journey toward careers in public safety and emergency services.

The newly certified EMRs are Alex Else (Cadillac HS), Josh Walker (Mesick HS), Alecia Hayes (Homeschooled), and Jenny Corn (CIHS Graduate). Each student demonstrated exceptional commitment, perseverance, and professionalism throughout the rigorous training process. The program required extensive classroom instruction, hands-on skill development, and real-world scenario-based learning to prepare students for the demands of emergency response.

Earning a National Registry certification is a significant accomplishment that reflects both knowledge and readiness to serve in the field. These students are now qualified to begin working in the emergency services industry, where they will play a critical role in providing immediate care during medical emergencies.

Alecia Hayes and Alex Else have chosen to continue their education and training by pursuing their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, further advancing their skills and expanding their ability to serve their communities.
This achievement highlights not only the students’ hard work and determination but also the strength of the partnership with West Shore Community College. Through this collaboration, students gain valuable opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials while still in school.

“These students have shown incredible dedication and resilience,” said Instructor Brett DeAugustine. “They have put in countless hours studying, practicing, and pushing themselves to meet high standards. Their success is well-earned, and we are proud of the impact they are already beginning to make in the field of emergency services.”

The entire school community congratulates Alex, Josh, Alecia, and Jenny on this outstanding accomplishment and looks forward to seeing their continued success in the public safety field.
