We faced a particularly challenging week during the ice storm but were able to succeed due to the support received. Our team undertook 148 runs, which is about half of what we normally do in a month. We are thankful to those who brought food and to the colleagues who gave up their time off to work and ensure the county remained covered. The help from local farmers, citizens, and the National Guard in areas we could not reach was greatly appreciated. The response of the County Judge, Mayor, Fire departments, and Rescue squad during the ice storm was outstanding. The team in dispatch did an excellent job in keeping everything running smoothly; their work ethic is commendable. We also appreciate Sharon Borth for organizing food and Austin Carver for being available whenever we needed him. It's hard to thank everyone sufficiently, but know that your efforts are valued and make Allen County proud. I can’t name everyone but know you are appreciated and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Kentucky National Guard is stationed at the Ambulance Service assisting with EMS runs. Please be aware and move over so they can get to where EMS is responding (they do have one of our Paramedics with them).

******Traffic Alert******

Roadways are deteriorating rapidly.

We are have already worked multiple non-injury collisions due to the roadways becoming slick and hazardous.

If you do not have to travel, we recommend you to stay at home.

01/23/2026

If you are using an oxygen concentrator, please ensure that you have portable oxygen tanks readily available in the event of a power outage, as we do not have spare tanks available for loan. Additionally, please verify that you have a sufficient supply of medication to last for at least seven days, taking into account potential pharmacy closures due to adverse road conditions.

❄️ Rutherford County EMS Winter Storm Preparedness Update ❄️
Rutherford County EMS is preparing for the upcoming winter storm, and we want to remind everyone: your safety starts with being prepared before the weather arrives.
Please stay off the roads until conditions improve and roads are mostly cleared.
Even a small amount of snow or ice can make travel extremely dangerous — especially on bridges, shaded areas, and hills. Be prepared to be home from Saturday morning to Wednesday afternoon.
🚑 EMS crews WILL be working through the storm
However, we will be responding at reduced speeds for the safety of our crews and the public, which means response delays are possible during the worst conditions.
📞 Please only call 911 for true emergencies that cannot wait.
During a storm, emergency resources can quickly become overwhelmed, and keeping 911 available for life-threatening calls helps us reach those who need immediate care.
Examples of when to call 911
Call 911 for:
• Chest pain or signs of a heart attack
• Trouble breathing / severe shortness of breath
• Signs of stroke (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty)
• Uncontrolled bleeding
• Severe injury from a fall or motor vehicle crash
• Unconsciousness or unresponsive person
• Severe allergic reaction (swelling, trouble breathing)
• Any situation where life or limb is at risk
❌ Examples of when NOT to call 911
Please avoid calling 911 for:
• Minor cold/flu symptoms
• Routine medication refills
• Chronic pain that hasn’t worsened suddenly
• Minor aches, mild fever, or non-urgent issues
• General weather updates or road condition questions
• Transportation requests when no emergency exists
🧊 A few quick reminders to stay safe:
• Charge phones and medical devices
• Keep flashlights ready (avoid candles if possible)
• Have extra blankets, food, water, and needed medications
• Check on elderly neighbors and family
• If you MUST travel, pack a blanket, water, and emergency supplies
❤️ Our mission is to provide excellent compassionate care on every call and we want to focus on the true emergencies that will arise as well as keeping our crews as safe as possible — and we appreciate everyone doing their part to help keep responders and citizens safe.
Stay safe. Stay warm. Stay home if you can.
