Happy Labor Day. Did you know Labor Day began as a grassroots movement by trade unions in the late 19th century to honor the contributions of workers before President Grover Cleveland signed it into a federal holiday on June 28, 1894? Remember there is no school on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Student Device Update TODAY – Restart Computer!

To improve the performance, security, and reliability of district-issued student devices, Technology Services will be deploying an update TODAY, Tuesday, September 1st.

Following this update, some student devices may temporarily lose internet connectivity. If this occurs, students can typically restore their connection by restarting their device once or twice.

Remember:
Save any open work before leaving for the long weekend.

Restart their device at least once during the long weekend, if possible.
Restart their device again when they return to school if they experience any connectivity issues.

Sign back in and reconnect to the network if prompted.

Because the update will occur over the long weekend, we strongly encourage students to restart their devices before returning to class. This simple step can help ensure their device is ready for learning and minimize any disruptions when school resumes.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to maintain a secure, reliable, and high-performing technology environment for our students and staff.

For Mandy Nierad, Sequoya Elementary School has always been more than a school. It has been home.

Mandy’s Sequoya story began with her mom, one of the original teachers who helped open the school. She became a Sequoya student herself and even met her future husband there, who was the 5th grade student body president at the time!

After college, Mandy returned to Sequoya for her student teaching. She later volunteered while her daughters attended the school.

Today, she teaches 4th grade in the same community that helped shape her.

As SUSD celebrates 130 years of A Legacy of Learning, Mandy’s story is a beautiful reminder of what makes this district so special. Across generations, SUSD schools have been places where students learn, families connect and lifelong memories are made.
