Students in Mohave Middle School’s Advanced Art class are putting their creativity to work for a cause that reaches far beyond the classroom.

Through Art2Hearts, students are creating colorful canvas paintings that will be donated to Phoenix Children’s Hospital to help brighten the walls and spaces where pediatric patients spend time during their hospital stays.

Art2Hearts provides supplies and opportunities for artists, classrooms and community groups to create artwork for pediatric hospitals. The nonprofit was founded by Blake Crisses, who spent much of her childhood in and out of hospitals and wanted to help bring a little more color and joy to other children facing similar experiences.

We can’t wait to see the finished masterpieces from our Mohave artists and the smiles they’ll help create. 🖌️💙

A public meeting will be held on September 22, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Desert Mountain High School auditorium at 12575 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale, AZ 85259.

The purpose of this meeting is to obtain public comment regarding potential school closures and resulting attendance boundary changes. The District administration is proposing school closures due to declining enrollment, to optimize facility management, and to increase budget capacity for District programming.

The District administration is proposing three options regarding potential school closures and/or consolidations and six models regarding resulting attendance boundary changes (two models per school closure option).

Information regarding the three proposed options and boundary models and maps may be viewed online at: susd.org/school-repurposing-phase-ii.

The schools potentially impacted with respect to the options regarding school closure and/or consolidation and resulting boundary changes are as follows:

Anasazi Elementary School; Cheyenne Traditional School; Copper Ridge School; Desert Canyon Elementary School; Desert Canyon Middle School; Laguna Prep; and Redfield Elementary School.

The following additional schools may also be impacted with respect to boundary changes:

Anasazi Elementary School; Cochise Elementary School; Chaparral High School; and Desert Mountain High School.

Option 1 would move Cheyenne Traditional to current Copper Ridge campus; Laguna Prep & Redfield move to current Cheyenne campus.

Option 2 would move Desert Canyon K-8 to current Copper Ridge campus; Laguna Prep closes.

Option 3 would close Copper Ridge & Laguna Prep.

At this public meeting, attending members of the Governing Board of the Scottsdale Unified School District will gather public input regarding the proposed boundary changes.

Speakers will be limited to two (2) minutes and must be present to speak. Speakers cannot allocate their time to another individual.

The Governing Board will not be voting at the public hearing on September 22, 2026. The District has scheduled a meeting to consider potential school closures and resulting boundary changes on October 6, 2026.
