Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave law enforcement officers across our nation who gave their lives in the line of duty. During this Police Week, we also recognize the sacrifices made every day by officers and the families who stand beside them in service.

I especially want to thank our SUSD School Resource Officers (SROs) who help keep our students, staff, and campuses safe. Their presence builds trust, protects our schools, and supports a safe learning environment for all.

Please join me in expressing gratitude to the men and women who serve our community with courage, professionalism, and dedication. We remember those we have lost, honor those who continue to serve, and commit ourselves to supporting the officers who help protect our communities and our schools.

Behind every successful graduate is a team of people cheering them on every step of the way.

I loved running into the Kallis crew at the Class of 2026 Diploma and Certificate of Merit Recognition Ceremony for Scottsdale’s Math & Science Academy at Saguaro High School on Wednesday. It was a wonderful celebration recognizing the hard work, dedication, and achievements of these outstanding students.

It was also an honor to personally hand each student their honor hood as they prepare to take the next step toward graduation. Moments like these remind us how important family, teachers, mentors, and community support are in helping students thrive.

Congratulations to all of the students and families celebrating this special milestone 🎓

I loved kicking off my Wednesday morning with the cast of Lion King Jr. at Laguna Prep SUSD. Watching these students shine on stage took me right back to my own 5th grade public school performance in Macbeth, a memory I still treasure all these years later.

That’s the beauty of the fine arts in our schools. Talented teachers are helping students discover confidence, creativity, belonging, and joy. For some, these experiences will spark lifelong passions. For others, it will simply become one of those memories they talk about decades later as one of their favorite parts of their educational experience.

So grateful for the educators and families who continue to invest in opportunities like this for our students. Bravo to the entire cast and crew on a wonderful performance 👏🏼 Thanks for inviting me!

Today, on Teacher Appreciation Day, we celebrate the incredible teachers who have dedicated their lives to shaping, guiding, and inspiring the students in SUSD.

As a mom preparing to graduate my fifth child from SUSD this month, I have been reflecting on how many of you have poured into his life and the lives of all six of my children over the years. Your patience, encouragement, and commitment have made a lasting difference that reaches far beyond the classroom.

My family is deeply grateful for the role you have played in helping our children grow into who they are today!

I am beyond frustrated and deeply concerned. Are you?

Yesterday, a Scottsdale kindergarten teacher was arrested and accused of possessing child s*xual abuse material. As a parent and school board member, this hits at the core of what matters most- the safety of our children.

Back in February, I raised questions about district spending on International Alliance Group that I found in our expenditures. At the time, we were told by our Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources that the district was struggling to find Spanish teachers and had turned to this company to fill those roles. This individual (along with others) was hired through that program on a J-1 visa.

Every adult working with our children—no matter how they are hired—must meet the highest standards of screening, accountability, and oversight.

We cannot afford gaps in our systems when it comes to student safety. Not now. Not ever.

We must take a hard look at our hiring practices, our vetting processes, and our safeguards.

Our kids deserve nothing less.
Enough is enough. It’s time to do better.

FUN FACT: This is my Grandpa who served on our local school board in Perry Township, Indiana before I was born. He was so proud to see me step up to serve our community in the same way!

Unfortunately, he passed last year at the age of 99 but it is incredibly special to have his campaign materials from when he ran—and won—on a slate of three in 1964.

A meaningful reminder that investing in our schools is a legacy worth carrying forward!
