They are the voice that is always there to hear. The voice that answers in another’s panic, stays with them through the fear, and remains even after the silence that follows tragedy. They are the steady presence in moments most people could never imagine carrying. The first calm voice in chaos, the guiding hand when someone feels alone, and the connection between heartbreak and help. Even when a life has fallen silent, our dispatchers are still there holding the line, helping others carry the weight, and making sure no one faces those moments alone. What they do cannot be measured in words, only in the lives they touch and the burdens they quietly carry.

But, that is what our dispatchers do. They carry their voice through joy, chaos, fear, and grief. They speak when others can’t. They hold composure when hearts are breaking. They are there for every beginning, every emergency, and even every goodbye.

There are no words big enough for that kind of service.

To our unsung heroes, thin gold line, and the first, first responders... Thank you.
The rest of us in public safety couldn't do our jobs without you.

What really IS Mobile Integrated Health?

It is a question we see a lot, and honestly, it's one of the more important things we can do in EMS. MIH isn't 911, MIH is what happens before the emergency and sometimes what prevents it from happening altogether. Our MIH team is made up of paramedics who go beyond the ambulance. They meet patients where they are - literally. In their homes, on their terms, and on a schedule that works for them. Our full time team checks in, follows up after hospital visits, assist in chronic condition management, medication reconciliation, and catch small problems before they become big, life-threatening ones. MIH is built to be proactive instead of reactive and also allow to have that gap bridged in between those who don't necessarily need an ambulance, but still need help. This also includes working alongside other healthcare partners in our community for example, hospice teams, helping support families through some of the most critical and personal moments in their life. We don't want to stop there - We are actively looking to build relationships with additional local resources and agencies to continue expanding what we offer. If you or someone you know could assist us in the search, feel free to contact our team!

While our duty crews on a daily basis treat the emergency, MIH expands to assist in treating the whole picture. Healthcare doesn't have to start at the hospital doors, nor does it have to wait until then. If you, a loved one, or any of your friends believe they could benefit from our program, give us a call. We are enrolling new patients weekly.

Best part of MIH here in Scott County? There is NO COST to the patient or their insurance thanks to continued collaboration with the Scott County Health Department.

Give us a call with any questions! (812) 832-0026

Big thank you to Air Medical - Madison for hosting an on-site A&R along with a hands-on training with our Hamilton T1 Ventilators. Training collaborations like these are what moves pre-hospital care forward. By bringing different perspectives, experiences, and strengths together we create better outcomes for the communities and populations we serve.

Join us in welcoming the 2026 SCEMS Paramedic Program cohort! We started their Day 1 off with some administrative work, syllabus review, peer introductions, and passing out all the materials they need for the course. Each individual was hand selected after entry exams, assessments, and one on one interviews were completed prior to the start of the course.

Leave some words of encouragement for these guys and gals, we are very excited to have them!

Nothing like some early morning friendly competition! SCEMS competed against Scottsburg Fire Department in a sandwich making contest and came out on top for the grand opening of the Scottsburg Wawa.

Wawa graciously awarded the winning team with $1,000 to donate to a charity of their choice - SCEMS chose to donate to The Devonnia Tscheulin Memorial Fund through the Scott County Community Foundation. 💜

Scott County EMS has added a new addition to our front line ambulances and are now equipped with portable blanket warmers. These were provided through grant funding from the Southern TRAC Advisory Committee and the Indiana Department of Health as part of a regional quality improvement initiative for ambulance services in Districts 8, 9, and 10 — meaning this cost our county zero dollars.

So.. Why blanket warmers and what is the benefit?

Patients can lose body heat quickly due to trauma, illness, shock, or environmental exposure. Even mild hypothermia can increase complications to existing symptoms/injuries. Early passive rewarming in the prehospital setting helps improve patient comfort and supports better outcomes. Plus, we have all experienced the Indiana weather mood swings just in the past few weeks, and this is a quick resource for those days where the weather switches up without warning.

It’s a simple addition, but one that aligns with evidence-based care and regional efforts to strengthen prehospital treatment standards.

We appreciate the continued collaboration that allows services like ours to enhance patient care without additional costs – Thank you Southern TRAC & IDOH!
