If you have concerns about LB1187--the anti-brand bill--PLEASE READ THIS FROM SPEAKER JOHN ARCH...

I assure you the members of the Legislature understand and sympathize with the horrible situation our fellow Nebraskans are experiencing due to the fires. Unfortunately, the hearing on AM2503 to LB 1187 was scheduled before the tragedy unfolded in the western half of our state. I have been in multiple conversations with the chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Senator Barry DeKay regarding this issue. Senator DeKay has made the very difficult decision to continue with the hearing, given the fact there is little time remaining in this legislative session. There is absolutely no expectation that anybody should make the trip to Lincoln to testify on the amendment. To accommodate those who want to weigh in on this issue, Senator DeKay and I agree that the public comment period on this issue should be extended. Typically the deadline for online public comments is 8:00 a.m. the day of the hearing. For this situation, online public comments will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st. This will give people the opportunity to watch the hearing on the Legislature's webpage and provide comment afterwards in response to in-person testimony: https://nebraskalegislature.gov/ Senator DeKay has assured me that he will consider all comments submitted just as if they were provided in person. This is a highly unusual situation, and we are working hard to ensure the legislative process continues while still all citizens an opportunity to share their voice. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

John Arch

Tomorrow, the Legislature will hold hearings on what is dubbed the "brand" bill. This bill--LB1187-- is being pushed by large, commercial feedlots and is adamantly opposed by most cattle producers. It is an altered reintroductionof a bill that was killed earlier in the session.

In addition to the idiocy of stripping producers of the ability to accurately monitor their herds, the tactics of the AG committee are reprehensible! Calling a hearing on such short notice, while those most effected by its mandates DURING CALVING AND WHILE THEIR PASTURES BURN is beyond absurd. We have until tonight to comment online since we cannot get to Lincoln in person.

PLEASE...follow the link...comment...let the mighty 49 know that they will be held accountable if they are stupid enough to take one the largest industry in Nebraska.

May God have mercy...
