This weeks training was an extension of last weeks stabilization training to perform vehicle extrication. Crews worked together on multiple scenarios including basic door removal, dash lifts and rolls.

Crews also trained on some more advanced techniques including tunneling through the trunk of a vehicle when limited to no access to the side of the vehicle are possible, vehicle stabilization utilizing a tie back system and removal of a roof for a vehicle on its side.

A huge thank you goes out to Mcdonald’s Towing for providing the training space and vehicles to train with.

Training this week was a joint training with our friends at Comstock Fire & Rescue. Personnel attended a Monday morning and a Tuesday evening training on vehicle stabilization and a lifting scenario for an under ride. The lifting scenario was a mock of a passenger car that was wedged underneath a garbage truck.

Huge thank you to Comstock for letting us attend and thank you to Mcdonald’s Towing for providing the vehicles and space to train.

Stay weather aware this evening. Strong to severe storms are possible.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings tonight. Thunderstorms will likely develop across Wisconsin this afternoon and evening, moving over Lake Michigan late this evening especially after 8pm. These thunderstorms may feature damaging wind gust swaths of 75 mph or potentially greater as a fairly intense line could develop as it reaches the lakeshore. A few tornadoes are also possible both within the line itself and possibly in any isolated supercells that develop ahead of it. Some power outages will likely develop near and south of I-96 tonight. Heavy rainfall over a short amount of time may create urban and poor drainage flooding overnight which could last into Wednesday morning. Torrential downpours may lead to rapid street flooding overnight along with the risk for overflowing ditches and low lying areas already ponded by recent rainfall.

This weekend our members had the opportunity to attend top-notch training by Training to Perform Under Pressure sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation. This free training included a series of 3 full days of training on Truck Functions, Hose-line Systems, and Firefighter Rescue Under Collapse. These 3 classes helped sharpen our valuable skills.

This morning, Pavilion Township Firefighters participated in a Grain Bin Rescue training.

The training began with a classroom lecture covering the serious dangers associated with grain bin incidents, including engulfment hazards and the unique challenges rescuers face during these emergencies. Firefighters then took part in a hands-on portion where they were able to safely experience the effects of being buried in a simulated grain bin collapse and learn about the specialized tools and techniques required to conduct a successful rescue.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kzoo Fools and the Kalamazoo County Farm Bureau for providing this valuable and realistic training opportunity.

Last night, members of South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority and Pavilion Township Fire Department trained together on ice water rescue operations.

Firefighters reviewed and practiced critical skills including:
• Self-rescue techniques for victims
• Reach and throw rescue methods
• “Go” rescues when immediate action is required

Regular training like this ensures our crews are prepared to respond quickly and safely during ice-related emergencies.
