This past week both our part-time military members, and full-time civilian firefighters trained with the Scotia Fire Department to complete their annual structural live fire training!

Training encompassed many skills ranging from hose line advancement, search/rescue, ventilation, communication, fire behavior/flow path and incident command.

A special thank you to our friends at Mechanicville Fire Department and Round Lake Fire department for providing apparatus to meet the NFPA 1403 requirements!

Today, we remember all those we lost on September 11th, 2001.

Our members completed the 9/11 Stair Climb Challenge, climbing 110 flights of stairs in remembrance of the firefighters and first responders who climbed toward danger in the World Trade Center on September 11th. We also attended a remembrance ceremony held by the Town of Glenville, honoring the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice still echoes through the fire service and reminds us of the responsibility we carry every time we put on the uniform.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

We would like to congratulate Firefighter Jared Richard’s who has successfully completed his probationary period and is officially a permanent firefighter in our Department!

Today our members participated in a confined space rescue exercise designed to challenge our firefighters and reinforce the skills needed during one of the most complex types of emergency incidents.

The training focused on teamwork, communications, scene size-up, patient access and removal, rope systems, respiratory protection, ventilation, atmospheric monitoring, and operating safely in a hazardous environment.

🚨On August 6th the Fire Department responded to a hangar on the installation for a reported smoking electrical panel. Upon arrival of Car-578 and Engine-7 power was unable to be secured to the breaker, and there was active arcing with a heavy electric smell. Due to having an aircraft inside the hangar Car-578 requested a working fire assignment from Schenectady County UCC. Thankfully there was no extension to anywhere except the light switch that burnt. We want to give a huge thanks to all of our mutual aid, Schenectady County Coordinators, Schenectady County Investigators, along with the 109th Security Forces and our base electrician for their assistance! 🚨

The incident is still under investigation.

The Stratton Fire Department engages in a diverse range of specialized operations, requiring continuous training to optimize our capabilities!

Our recent training has encompassed
ARFF driver operator, technical rope rescue, SCBA confidence and survival, engine company operations, hazardous materials response, and other critical areas. We also partnered with the Alplaus Fire Department to conduct a joint rope rescue training, fostering stronger interagency operability!

We also got to join in on some 4th of July celebration events by participating in Alplaus Fire Department's Firefighter
Games and parade!

Today we had the privilege to go to Albany Airport and perform our annual ARFF live fire training evolutions. This year we got to use a new training aircraft prop that really enhanced our search and rescue skills along with fire attack.
