Last week, Mark Mindt, an educator/author/illustrator and citizen of the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation who has created the Children's Book Series, "KODA the Warrior" visited our school and talked to all students in K-12.

His discussions promoted improving attendance, increasing positive behaviors, and encouraging achievable academic goals. The students thoroughly enjoyed his presentations! Thank you Mark!

As one way of celebrating Native American Indian Heritage Day, our students prepared Pumpkin Cutlets - inspired by Native American Indian food traditions. Pumpkins are a traditional and culturally significant food, and our students learned about their history and nutritional value while practicing their knife skills, food safety, and cooking methods.

This lab was made possible thanks to generous donations of pumpkins and garden vegetables from our community members.
