The Town of Scituate seeks applicants to serve as Crossing Guards during morning and afternoon shifts throughout the school year.
Crossing Guards assist schoolchildren in safely crossing roadways at designated locations during school arrival and dismissal. They identify appropriate gaps in traffic, use approved signals and equipment to alert motorists, confirm that vehicles have stopped, and guide children safely through the crosswalk. Crossing Guards also promote safe pedestrian practices, remain alert to traffic and roadway hazards, report unsafe conditions or incidents, and perform other related duties as required.
Shifts are approximately two hours per day (45-60 minutes in the AM and 45-60 minutes in the PM), weekdays during the school year. Specific work hours will be set by the direct supervisor and would vary according to operational need.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate the ability to learn and apply applicable laws and regulations, interact effectively and courteously with the public, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
The pay rate for this non-union, non-benefited position is $21.00 per hour. The position reports to the Scituate Police Department, which will provide initial training.
All candidates for the position of Crossing Guard will be required to submit to and pass CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and SORI (S*x Offender Record Information) background checks prior to their first day of employment.
