Attention Scipio Community:

Effective immediately, you will no longer be able to access the parking lot off of 575 W. At this time, two posts and a chain have been installed across the entryway. This closure is temporary until new gates can be installed.

The reason for this change is due to safety concerns for our members while at the station and during station rentals. We have had several close calls involving vehicles speeding through the parking lot, with members nearly being struck.

With that being said, please do not drive through the yard, and we ask that everyone respect the property.

We hope the community understands the safety concerns behind this decision. Your Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue is proud to serve you!

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Yesterday evening, the Scipio-Geneva Fire Department conducted its monthly training session, with a focus on vehicle extrication operations. The training provided an opportunity for both newer and experienced members to further develop and strengthen their skills.

The training scenario involved a two vehicle collision, with one vehicle overturned and a patient entrapped inside. Crews began by properly stabilizing the vehicle before initiating extrication efforts from the rear of the vehicle toward the front, where the patient was located. Firefighters successfully and safely removed the victim before participating in a tabletop discussion reviewing the operation, including what went well and areas where improvements could be made.

With Highway 7 running through our township, our department responds to numerous motor vehicle accidents each year and must remain prepared to perform these operations efficiently and effectively.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Lee’s Wrecker Service for donating both vehicles utilized during the training, as well as Jennings County EMS for providing a mannequin for use as the patient during the scenario.

The Scipio-Geneva Firefighters are proud to serve and protect our community.

🚧 NOTICE: Temporary Road Closure 🚧

Scipio Geneva Fire Rescue would like to inform the community that the roadway from the fire station to County Road 700 N will be closed today.

This closure is necessary to allow for the safe completion of an Eagle Scout service project, which involves the installation of a designated landing zone (LZ) for medical helicopter use. This important improvement will enhance our ability to provide rapid emergency medical transport when every second counts.

We appreciate your patience and support as this project is completed. Please plan alternate routes and use caution in the area.

Thank you for supporting our local Scouts and emergency services! 🚑🚁
