🚨ODOR INVESTIGATION 🚨

Today, just after 5:00 PM, Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure for a report of smoke inside the residence.

Engine-22, Engine-21, and two firefighters in POVs responded to the incident. Upon arrival, crews determined that burnt food in a microwave had caused the residence to become filled with smoke.

Firefighters removed the burnt food and ventilated the residence to clear the remaining smoke. Once ventilation operations were complete and the smoke alarms had been reset, crews confirmed the residence was safe and returned to service.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

SAFETY REMINDER: Never leave food unattended while cooking or heating it in a microwave. If smoke or fire occurs, evacuate the residence and call 911. Do not re-enter the home until it is safe to do so.

We encourage everyone to ensure their smoke alarms are properly functioning and to have an emergency escape plan in place for their household.

STRUCTURE FIRE – EARLY MORNING RESPONSE

Early this morning, just before 1:30 a.m., one of the residents arrived home from work and noticed a fire inside the residence. The fire was immediately reported to Jennings County Dispatch, and your Scipio-Geneva Firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Engine-22, Engine-21, and Tanker-21 responded, along with mutual aid from Spencer Township.

While fire crews were en route, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and entered the residence to shut off the main electrical breaker.

Thankfully, the fire was contained to a small area within the living room, and no injuries were reported.

Upon arrival, Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue personnel checked the surrounding walls for any hidden fire or remaining hotspots. Crews then provided positive-pressure ventilation to remove smoke from the residence and ensure the structure was safe.

We would like to thank Spencer Township, Jennings County EMS, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, and Jennings County Dispatch for their assistance and continued partnership.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY STAY SAFE, SCIPIO & GENEVA! ☀️

With high temperatures expected this week, Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue wants everyone to take a few extra precautions. Extreme heat can become dangerous quickly, especially for children, older adults, and those working or exercising outdoors.

💧 Drink plenty of water don't wait until you're thirsty.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🚗 NEVER leave children, pets, or anyone unattended in a vehicle. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly within minutes.
👵 Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors and family members.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when outside.
🌞 Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
🐾 Remember your pets! Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and a cool place to rest.
🔥 Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and seek emergency help when needed.

🚨 If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, has a seizure, or has extremely hot skin, call 911 immediately.

🚨 Motor Vehicle Collision – August 29, 2026 🚨

Tonight, just after 8:30 p.m., your Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a tree.

Rescue-21, Brush-21, and two firefighters in POVs responded to the scene. While units were en route, Jennings County Dispatch advised that there was no entrapment and that minor injuries were being reported.

Upon arrival, crews began assessing the scene and evaluating the patients. Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported, and no patients were transported to the hospital after signing a SOR (Signature of Refusal).

We would like to thank the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, Jennings County EMS, Jennings County Dispatch, and Lucas Wrecker Service for their assistance at the scene.

Good evening, Scipio Community!

For starters, we would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us about burning brush piles and has offered donations. We are extremely grateful for your continued support!

Our firefighters are slowly working through the scheduling process and completing burns as conditions and availability allow. Please be patient with us, as the majority of these burns will take place on weekends.

If you have a brush pile that you would like burned, or if you do not feel comfortable burning it yourself, please reach out to us through our page. We would be happy to get your pile added to our schedule!

Due to the cost of fuel, water, and operating our apparatus, we ask for a minimum $50 donation for brush pile burning services. Donations above the minimum are always greatly appreciated and help support Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue and our ability to continue serving our community.

🚨 MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – HIGHWAY 7 🚨

This morning, Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue was dispatched to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 7.

Rescue-21, with three crew members, along with three firefighters responding in POVs, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately began assessing the scene, checking for patients, and establishing traffic control.

Thankfully, only one patient was transported from the scene with minor injuries. Highway 7 was reduced to one lane until Lucas Wrecker Service was able to remove the vehicles from the ditch along the roadway.

Good evening, Scipio-Geneva Community!

We would like to remind everyone about the importance of obeying all road closures and directions given by emergency personnel. When you approach a scene regardless of the location and see our fire apparatus blocking the roadway, firefighters waving you to stop, or temporary stop signs in place, please stop and do not proceed past the closure.

Our apparatus are often positioned away from an emergency scene to create a safe working environment for our crews during motor vehicle accidents, structure fires, storm damage, and other roadway emergencies. These safety zones are in place to protect firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, tow operators, and the public.

Recently, we had multiple close calls during a road closure on Highway 7, where two of our members and Brush 21 were nearly struck by vehicles attempting to drive through the closed roadway.

Please do not assume you can drive through a closed road. Follow the temporary detour or safely turn around. A few extra minutes of travel is never worth risking the lives of emergency responders or others working at the scene.

🚑 MONTHLY TRAINING – AUGUST 18, 2026 🚑

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, your Scipio-Geneva Firefighters met at Station 21 for our monthly training.

Chief Paramedic Kristie Gilpin provided an informative presentation covering HIPAA rules and regulations. Following the presentation, Kristie also brought Medic 3 to the station, allowing our members to familiarize themselves with the ambulance and the location of its equipment and supplies.

This training is especially beneficial for our newer members, as well as members who hold medical certifications, helping ensure they know where to quickly locate needed supplies during a medical emergency.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Jennings County EMS and Chief Paramedic Kristie Gilpinfor providing an amazing and informative training!

🚨 ROADWAY CLOSURE — PLEASE AVOID THE AREA! 🚨
UPDATE- Highway 7 is now BACK OPEN! However, please continue to use EXTREME CAUTION when traveling through the area.

Duke Energy will need to assemble additional crews to replace two damaged utility poles. At this time, we do not have a confirmed timeframe for when the pole replacements will take place.

Your Scipio-Geneva Firefighters are currently on scene for a tree down with power lines involved on Highway 7 near Private Road 325 N. The roadway is CLOSED until further notice while crews work to make the area safe.

We are also responding to a second call on Londondary Way in CSL, involving two large trees down on power lines.

⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT GO AROUND DOWNED POWER LINES!
You do not know whether the lines are energized, and they can pose a serious or potentially deadly hazard.

Please use an alternate route, slow down around emergency crews, and give our firefighters plenty of room to work.
