Reminder: The Schoharie County Transfer Station will be closed on July 4.

🎆 Celebrate Safely This US Independence Day

For waste and resource management professionals, improper disposal of fireworks can create fire risks for collection vehicles, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and landfills.

For members of the public: follow local disposal guidance for used fireworks. ❌ Never put live fireworks in the household trash.

EXTRA, EXTRA! 🗣️ Recycling is REAL! ♻️

Many individuals believe that their recycling and trash are sent to the same location after leaving the curb or transfer station. In reality, recyclables are sent to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where they are sorted by material type.

As recyclables move along a series of conveyor belts, equipment such as screens, fans, and magnets helps separate paper, cardboard, metals, and other materials. By the end of the process, contamination is minimal, and the materials are baled and sold to companies that turn them into new products.

♻️ Every item recycled correctly helps give valuable materials a second life 💫

GREAT NEWS! The Schoharie County Transfer Station (2805 Route 7, Howes Cave, NY) is now partnering with EWASTE+ for electronics recycling! Please view the attached flyer for accepted items. E-waste recycling is FREE and available daily for county residents.
