Schoharie Fire Department

Schoharie Fire Department Niagara Engine Company No. 6, Inc of the Schoharie Fire Department is your local volunteer fire dept

The Schoharie Fire Department has become one that is aggressive, yet well trained, with firematic and administrative officers that are both optimistic and practical. Located in rural upstate New York thirty miles south-west of the State's Capital, Albany, our district covers about twenty-seven square miles of diverse terrain. From rolling, forested hills to our east and west side separated by the

Schoharie river valley, we run five fire apparatuses out of one station with a volunteer staff of about forty members. The Schoharie Fire Department averages 240 calls per year, providing fire, EMS, rescue, and fire police services to our district. We have developed great partnerships with our neighboring companies of Central Bridge, Esperance, Gallupville & Middleburgh, resulting in the establishment of mutual aid contracts. We also provide assistance to Scho-Wright Ambulance Service as needed. The speech expressed by visitors to this webpage does not

Just wanted to wish all of the fathers and father figures out there a happy Father’s Day.

Also, in case you didn’t know, Benjamin Franklin is widely celebrated as the father of the American fire service. In 1736, he co-founded the Union Fire Company in Philadelphia—the colonies' first formally organized, all-volunteer fire brigade!

Mutual aid… The coolest thing since sliced bread!

Every fire department in Schoharie County relies on mutual aid. Everybody. Early this morning at a EMS call, our fire department needed to ask assistance from Schoharie County EMS, Scho-Wright Ambulance and Mohawk Ambulance. Earlier this week, our fire department responded to a mutual aid call to support Middleburgh FD and West Fulton FD. Last month when responding to a tractor fire, we relied on help from both Central Bridge FD and Gallupville FD.

So, we just wanted to give a big shout out to all of our neighboring emergency response teams that are always there to help when we call them.

So how can you help out? If you’re not part of your local fire department, you should go down to their fire station and introduce yourself and ask what you can do to help them out. We guarantee that any department would be more than glad to put your talent and time to good use. For us, we are drilling this Thursday and next Thursday at 7 PM… Stop on by our station… We have a membership application waiting for you.

Had a great time at the elementary school carnival Friday night. Nothing better than hanging out with friends from your neighboring fire department and showing off emergency response equipment for the entire elementary school. Thanks Schoharie Elementary EPTSOfor the invite and thanks Central Bridge FD for hanging!

In our fire department, we have many different types of tools… Fire hoses, fire extinguishers, backboards, AEDs, rescue equipment, radios, and so much more. One of the tools that we use very frequently is one that the public doesn’t see… It is called “I Am Responding” and it is our communication system. In addition to sending out text alerts about emergency response calls, it also serves as a calendar and reminder of our training nights and community activities that we support. This is just a quick screenshot of our upcoming activities over the next 45 days.

We’d love to talk to some of you that are new to the area and new to the emergency response service, and see how we can plug in your time and talents to support our community. Your support could be in the form of emergency response, or it could also be in how we support our community events. Contact us today !

We appreciate all of the great things that each and every member of our department bring to the table. But it’s also good to acknowledge a few of our members that go above and beyond. Thank you… And your community thanks you. And to say thank you, each of our these members receive a small Stewart’s gift card to use.

Who knows, maybe you could be the next member of the month. Stop on by our fire station when the doors are open or the lights are on, meet our members, pick up a membership application. It’s really that easy.

We had a great night at drill Monday night. Our members spent the time refreshing their skills related to pump operations. On top of that two of our newest members, Mary and Tobias, were sworn in and took their oath to the company. We are looking forward to working with both members and thank them for being willing to give their time and talent back to the community.

For anyone else looking to be like Mary and Tobias, stop by on our next drill night and pick up a membership application or two and tour our fire station and meet our members.

Donates To Lily Park

In case you missed last weeks edition of both of our local newspapers, our department is enhancing the fun at the Schoharie Lily Park, located just down the road from our fire station. We were recently awarded a Community grant from the Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company. The grant money was used to purchase a concrete Chinese checkers table that is freely available for anyone to use. Pictured below our members of the Schoharie Promotional Assn along with department President Sue Rolfe and Fire Chief John Borst III. Have fun Schoharie and !
