Congratulations to Our Very Own June Clinicians of the Month!

We would like to offer a huge congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Dominic Zuccarelli, Battalion Chief Joe Konicek, Firefighter/EMT Mike Alonzo, and Firefighter/EMT Ariana Herrera for being recognized by University of Chicago Medicine as the June Clinicians of the Month.

This crew was honored for their exceptional prehospital care provided to a patient who experienced a traumatic event resulting in severe injuries. Their professionalism, clinical experience, and teamwork played an important role in the patientโ€™s care and recovery.

We are extremely proud of this crewโ€™s performance and are pleased to report that the patient has since been released from the hospital.

Outstanding work! You represented the Town and the Department with excellence and professionalism. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition

From the Physican Staff at University of Chicago

Congratulations! You have been selected as the University of Chicago EMS Division's June 2026 "EMS Clinicians of the Month"!

We received this submission from Dr. Kjolhede, one of our Emergency Medicine attending physicians, who recognized your excellent prehospital care. Dr. Kjolhede attested that the patient you cared for had significant facial trauma, yet you were still able to perform a successful prehospital intubation, which she described as "very impressive". Given your rapid response, effective use of resources, and strong early management, the patient was admitted and has since been discharged from the hospital. It is unlikely they would have achieved the same outcome without your initial care. We appreciate your efforts to go above and beyond to ensure excellent clinical care to those within the surrounding community.

Dr. Kjolhede's comments are included in the attached flyer which will be posted in our EMS Room for the month of June. We are grateful for your professionalism, dedication, and consistent high-quality patient care. Congratulations again!

Warmly,
The UChicago EMS Division
