After more than 32 years of dedicated service, our Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent, TJ Kmiatek, has retired.

TJ started his career with the Town on December 7, 1993, as an operator on the midnight shift at the Treatment Plant. Soon after, he moved into the Laboratory, where his knowledge, dedication, and leadership led to him becoming Laboratory Supervisor in January 2000. He held this role for 19 years.

In January 2019, he took on the role of Plant Superintendent, bringing with him decades of experience and a deep understanding of the plant and its operations. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated employee and an important part of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. His commitment and hard work have made a lasting contribution to the organization and the community.

TJ’s last date of service was September 11, 2026, and we want to thank him for more than 30 years of service and dedication. We will miss having TJ as part of the team and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement!

The Schererville 9/11 Ceremony begins tonight at 7:00 PM at the 9/11 Memorial near the Police Department, 25 E. Joliet Street.

Twenty-five years ago, the world stood still as we lost thousands of innocent civilians and brave first responders.

Remembering takes many forms. These annual memorials stand as meaningful traditions—opportunities to gather, reflect, honor those we lost, and ensure the events and sacrifices of September 11th are never forgotten.

Please join us this Friday at 7:00 PM as we come together to remember and honor those who gave their lives, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the countless families and communities forever changed by September 11th.

Schererville PD invites you to join us for our 2026 Citizen's Police Academy!

The academy will offer citizens an opportunity to see how their police
department works and what new technologies it has to offer. Class curriculum includes topics such as patrol functions, hand held radar training, criminal investigations, accident investigations, DUI investigations, self-defense, fi****ms, railway enforcement, and use of force issues, as well as, many other police related subjects.

LANE & RAMP CLOSURES - I-65 in Lake County

The right lane of northbound I-65 near U.S. 30 and the ramp from westbound U.S. 30 to northbound I-65 will be closed for approximately five days beginning on or after Monday, September 14 for road repairs. The ramp detour will be to enter I-65 southbound and utilize the U.S. 231 interchange to turn around and access I-65 northbound.

Lane closures will occur on I-65 between 109th Ave and U.S. 231 starting on or after Monday, September 14 to remove the lane shifts at 113th Ave. Lane closures will occur during the hours of 4 p.m to 6 a.m. through Friday morning. The 113th Ave bridge over I-65 will continue to be closed through the end of October for a bridge deck and partial superstructure replacement project, and lane closures will occur on I-65 in this location as needed for construction activities.

FEMA’s online status tracker is the fastest and easiest way for you to see the latest updates on your application for assistance. The status tracker is accessible 24/7 in your account on DisasterAssistance.gov.
What is the status tracker?
The status tracker is an online tool that provides the latest updates and next steps for your application. You will be able to see exactly where you are in the FEMA application process, including inspection status, eligibility decisions and any actions you need to take.
How do you access the status tracker?
 Go to DisasterAssistance.gov.
 Click “Check Status” and sign in or create an account.
 Once logged in, click the “Status” tab to see the status tracker for updates on your application or next steps you may need to take.
What should you look for in the status tracker?
Additional Information Needed
After you apply, sometimes FEMA will need additional information like an insurance settlement, copy of a receipt for disaster costs, or documents that confirm your identity and where you live.
Look for the section labeled “Your Next Steps” to see which documents FEMA needs from you and where you upload those documents.
FEMA Decisions and Appeals
If you are approved for FEMA assistance, the status tracker will show how much money you will get and what the money can be used for.
If you are not approved for FEMA assistance, the status tracker will explain what to do if you disagree with FEMA’s decision. You will use the Upload Center to submit additional documents like repair estimates. Then we will take another look at your case.
