RFD2 is beyond proud and excited to share with you all, that our very own Captain Mike Gilmore has been selected as Schenectady County’s Fire Officer of the Year!

During his tenure as Captain of Rotterdam Fire District 2, Captain Gilmore has gone above and beyond to strengthen our department. From revamping our probationary firefighter training program into a top-tier six-month curriculum to mentoring our future officers and leading weekly drills, his dedication to training and fire ground excellence makes RFD2 stronger everyday.

His leadership, fairness, and passion for emergency services are recognized not just within our department, but throughout Schenectady county and surrounding communities.

Please join us in thanking Captain Gilmore for his outstanding service and congratulating him on this well-deserved honor!

TODAY! September 12th, 9:00am-5:00pm

RFD #2 will be conducting our annual boot drive at the intersection of Curry Rd and Guilderland Ave.

Like last year, A portion of our proceeds will be donated to the Animal Protective Foundation, in honor of our fallen brother Roy Oyangen, who answered his last alarm on November 27th, 2020.

We will also be accepting Venmo donations! A QR code will be provided once you reach one of our firefighters on the street.

Please consider donating, anything helps! Please also consider sharing this post so that we can spread the message to as many people as possible!

Today we also honor our local heroes, who in the aftermath of 9/11, went down to New York City to assist in any way possible. A crew from Rotterdam Ambulance went to Ground Zero and provided EMS support to the workers searching for victims in the rubble. Most of this crew were also RFD #2 firefighters. The names of the men are listed below.

You may recognize these three from last week’s post!

At tonight’s company meeting, Darrin Dent, Logan Palazzolo, and Danny Bonsangue were voted in by the membership as official RFD2 members!

RFD2 would like to congratulate (L to R) Darrin Dent, Logan Palazzolo, and Danny Bonsangue on completing their probationary training! They all passed the Captain’s Test as well as the Chief’s Test today.

These three completed an in-depth, in-house training program to help them get accustomed to the way RFD2 operates, as well as learning the basics of firefighting. They will continue their training once enrolled in New York State firefighter training.

Congratulations! Your family at RFD2 is proud of your commitment and dedication to our fire company as well as our community. Never forget that learning never stops, and this is just the beginning!
