We're heartbroken to share that Anne Nelson, our Board Secretary, has passed away.
If you knew Anne, you knew her presence. She had this way of making you feel included, seen, and welcomed—sometimes without saying a single word. That's a rare gift, and it shaped who we are as a board and as an organization.
Anne wasn't just serving on our board—she was building something with us. She had real vision for where Sycamore was headed and was helping lead work to strengthen how our board operates and stays connected, work that reflected how much she cared about doing things well for the people around her.
Her heart for community reached far beyond Sycamore too—through her leadership with the Pride Center of the Capital Region and Schenectady Pride, and through the joy she brought as DJ Loki.
We will miss her more than words can capture. Please hold Anne's family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
A memorial service celebrating Anne's life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 3 to 4 pm at The Grove in Vale Park (North Brandywine Ave, Schenectady, NY). The service will be outdoors—attendees are asked to bring a chair and to wear purple or comfortable clothing that honors Anne's joyous spirit.
