For over one hundred years the library has served as the common ground and heart of the community. Toward the turn of the 20th century, a group of women and men of the First Parish Church on the Black Point Road, collected and shared their books. This idea of sharing became so popular that on August 2, 1899, the first meeting was held of people desiring to become incorporated as proprietors of a s

ocial library, with seven present. These seven appeared before a Justice of the Peace and thus the Scarboro Public Library Corporation was organized and recorded. Seven people demonstrated more than 100 years ago that a strong desire to share books could build a library.

We're getting excited! Cheap books-- perfect for bringing to the beach!

(This also serves as a reminder-- please don't bring library books to the beach! Sand is a big issue for us to deal with, and often leads to paying to replace the book.)

It's almost time for the annual summer book sale! **NEW** this year: current members of Friends of Scarborough Library pay $1 each for all materials!

For more info & to become a member, visit: https://friends.scarboroughlibrary.org/node/11

(You don't have to be a member to come shop, but current members receive a special discount as a membership perk. See the link for our full pricing list.)

Oh, what fun!

If you live in or around Scarborough, you have probably spent a summer evening at Memorial Park - walking the paths, sitting by the pond, letting the kids run around.

This summer we are giving you one more reason to head there.

Concerts in the Park brings live music, food trucks, and free admission to the park every Thursday night starting June 25th. Pack a blanket, grab dinner from one of the food trucks, and enjoy a fun night out with your family, friends, and neighbors.

Presented by the Scarborough Community Chamber of Commerce in partnership with new Scarborough Community Services and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce.
