📬 Scales Mound Residents: Watch Your Mailboxes! 💧
The Village of Scales Mound has mailed out a Required Cross Connection Control Survey to residents. This survey is part of a program required by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) to help protect our public drinking water system from contamination and backflow.
A “cross connection” is any connection between the public water supply and a non-potable source (such as sump pumps, wells, irrigation systems, pools, boilers, or other plumbing systems) that could potentially allow contaminated water to flow backward into the public water system during pressure changes. This is known as backflow.
The survey helps the Village:
✅ Identify potential cross connections
✅ Protect the safety of the community water supply
✅ Maintain compliance with Illinois EPA regulations
✅ Prevent unnecessary strain on the sewer system
🗓 Deadline to return the survey: June 15, 2026
📧 Surveys may be returned by:
• Emailing: [email protected]
• Dropping it in the mailbox outside Village Hall (Stone House)
• Mailing it to PO Box 105
⚠️ Important reminder: If a sump pump or similar system is found to be connected to the sanitary sewer in violation of Village ordinances, the property owner will be required to correct the issue. If a connection is knowingly misreported and later verified to be incorrect, the Village reserves the right to require correction or apply a special service charge to the water bill to account for additional system costs.
Please take a few minutes to complete and return the survey once you receive it. Your cooperation helps protect the quality and safety of Scales Mound’s drinking water for everyone. 💚
