Today a contingent of SPD officers current and retired along with several hundred officers from around the country completed their annual 9/11 memorial ride. The Tour De Force ride took them from Ground Zero to Boston in support of their mission to Honor and remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks, and to financially support the families of Police Officers who are killed in the line of duty .

🚨 Traffic Alert from the Sayreville Police Department 🚨

Attention, Sayreville community!

We want to inform you of anticipated traffic disruptions this evening.

- Closure Details:
- Time: Approximately 5:30 PM
- Location: Washington Rd, between Lakeview Dr and Ernston Rd
- Duration: About 45 minutes

This closure is due to the September 11th ceremony at Burkes Park.

Additionally, please be aware that there is a high school football game tonight. If you plan to arrive at the high school between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, we recommend planning an alternate route.

- Access to High School:
- The high school will only be accessible from the Ernston Rd end of the closure.
- Traffic will not be permitted past the middle school.

The Sayreville Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of its program to achieve re-accreditation by verifying that it meets recognized professional best practices.

Administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the Accreditation Program requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas: the administrative function, the personnel function, the operations function, the investigative function and the arrestee/detainee function.

Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 732-427-5870 on September 14, 2026 between the hours of 10:00am and 11:00am. Comments will be taken by a NJSACOP Assessor. Email comments can be sent to the Sayreville Police Department to Lieutenant Tom Sheehan at [email protected].
