WASHINGTON AVENUE MILLING & RESURFACING PROJECT UPDATE

Middlesex County Division of Highways have advised that Washington Avenue will undergo milling, resurfacing, and roadway striping . The work will extend from Main Street to Elm St. in South Amboy.

Tentative Construction Schedule
Monday, September 14: Milling
Tuesday, September 15: Paving
Wednesday, September 16: Striping
Work Hours: Approximately 7:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.

All dates and times are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability, or other unforeseen circumstances.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS

During construction hours, residents along Washington Avenue should anticipate temporary traffic restrictions, delays, construction equipment, and limited access along Washington Avenue. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area whenever possible and utilize alternate routes.

Please observe all temporary No Parking signs, traffic-control devices, and directions from County and construction personnel.

There will be a complete road closure from Main Street and Washington Avenue in South Amboy to the Route 35 underpass. Vehicles exiting Route 35 will only be permitted to turn left toward Sayreville.

The County will place a “Local Traffic Only” sign at Main Street and Raritan Street in Sayreville. This will allow residents and commercial vehicles traveling to the Gillette Industrial Park to access the area.

Emergency access will be maintained. While the primary work being completed is on the South Amboy side of Washington Avenue, Sayreville residents may experience added traffic and detours and should plan accordingly.

🚨 Traffic Alert from the Sayreville Police Department

- Closure Details:
- Time: Approximately 5:30 PM
- Location: Washington Rd, between Lakeview Dr and Ernston Rd
- Duration: About 45 minutes

This closure is due to the September 11th ceremony at Burkes Park.

Additionally, please be aware that there is a high school football game tonight. If you plan to arrive at the high school between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, we recommend planning an alternate route.

- Access to High School:
- The high school will only be accessible from the Ernston Rd end of the closure.
- Traffic will not be permitted past the middle school.

Today, the Sayreville Office of Emergency Management joins our community and our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken that day, the first responders who courageously ran toward danger, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed. We also remember those who have since lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses related to their service and recovery efforts.

Twenty-five years later, we remain united in remembrance, gratitude, and respect for the extraordinary courage and selflessness demonstrated in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

May we never forget those we lost, those who answered the call, and the spirit of unity that brought our nation together.

We have been notified by the Middlesex County Division of Highways that Washington Avenue will undergo milling, resurfacing, and roadway striping. The work will extend from Main Street in South Amboy to the Deep Cut Bridge (Washington Rd/Raritan St), as shown by the highlighted route on the accompanying map.

• Friday, September 11: Paving
• Monday, September 14: Striping
• Work Hours: Approximately 7:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.
