Big Training event
May 16 and 17 5 members took the time out of their weekend to go to Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Companypany participate in their annual 24 hour ERS and staffed an engine crew.
Saxonburg VFC had a crew participate in the 24 Hour ERS (24 hours of emergency response scenarios) at Cranberry Twp VFC’s fire training facility. Our engine crew was 1 of 13 fire apparatus (7 engines, 3 ladders and 3 rescues) from around the region (longest distance travelled goes to Montoursville VFD with an over 3 hour drive) encompassing 65 students who responded to 98 scenarios dispatched over 24 hours. Scenarios were run at real life emergency response pace with the only instructor intervention during incidents being if a safety concern was seen. After incident reviews with the instructors and crews was the educational review process so crews and companies either succeeded or failed as a team.
This was an amazing experience that really pushed teamwork at real life pace challenging our crews ability under stress, pressure and exhaustion. A thank you to firefighters Matt Imhoff, Bella Kemmer, Andy Schriner, Bill Weston and Andy Freehling (subbed Sunday morning for Bella) And a huge thank you to Township Volunteer Fire Company for hosting the event
