ROADWAY SAFETY ALERT
The Andrew County Road and Bridge Department and the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to use extreme caution while traveling on Andrew County gravel roadways.
Due to the large amount of rainfall we have received, and with additional rain possible throughout the weekend and into next week, we have experienced several roadway washouts and drainage tube failures. These conditions have created large openings in some roadways, making travel dangerous. We also have several roads with water still flowing over them, and additional flooding may occur with continued rainfall.
Please use caution while traveling and remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the road.
If you encounter roadway damage, washouts, flooded roads, or other roadway hazards, please report them to the Andrew County Road and Bridge Department at 816-324-4012 or contact Andrew County Dispatch at 816-324-4114 and press 1 for Dispatch. Prompt reporting helps ensure the appropriate crews can respond as quickly as possible.
The Sheriff’s Office was busy throughout the night responding to numerous reports of flash flooding across the county. We worked to reach all affected areas; however, some locations could not be safely accessed until the floodwaters receded.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during these challenging weather conditions. Please slow down, stay alert, and make safety your priority.
Everyone stay safe.
Sheriff Grant Gillett
