SAFE Shelter, Center for Domestic Violence Services, Inc. SAFE Shelter is a private non-profit organization that provides services to all victims of domestic violence at no cost.

SAFE Shelter is certified by the State of Georgia's Governors’ Office of Children and Families and is a United Way Agency. Shelter services include:
24-hour emergency shelter
24-hour crisis line (912) 629-8888
Case management
Children's program
Support groups for both adults and children
Preventative education/resources
Referral & advocacy services
Three meals each day

Clothing and personal care needs

Outreach Services include:
Assistance with Temporary Protective Orders
Courtroom advocacy
Referrals to Legal Assistance

Follow-up services for qualified clients leaving shelter services include:
Case management
Referral & advocacy services
Home visits
Support groups

New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Trina Embrey, DNS, RN, is a seasoned academic leader and educator in nursing with extensive experience in program administration, faculty development, accreditation, and teaching. She has served in senior leadership roles as BSN Program Director at Armstrong State University and as Chair of the School of Nursing at Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Embrey has held leadership and board positions at both the international and state levels, including service with Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Georgia Association for Nursing Education. Her scholarship includes publications in nursing education and complementary and integrative health.

Dr. Embrey is honored to serve on the Board of SAFE Shelter and is committed to increasing awareness of domestic violence and advancing efforts that support safety, healing, and meaningful change. Grounded in her nursing background, she brings a deep and compassionate understanding of healing and care and is dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote wellbeing in the community.

New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Kyle Gallenstein is a Savannah-based attorney who brings over a decade of public service to SAFE Shelter’s Board of Directors with a strong litigation background representing survivors of domestic violence and other crimes. Kyle joined the Georgia Legal Services Program in 2019. He is a Supervising Attorney in GLSP’s Savannah Regional Office with much of his focus on domestic relations, elder law, and consumer matters.

Prior to Georgia Legal Services Program, Kyle served as a Staff Attorney and Domestic Violence Clinic Supervisor with Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio. Kyle also currently serves on multiple family violence task forces in Coastal and Middle Georgia.

New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Zach Gilstrap is the President and Owner of College H.U.N.K.S. Moving & College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk, serving the Savannah, Hilton Head, Brunswick, and St. Simons Island markets with global logistics capabilities. With over a decade of experience across international, national, and local supply chains, Zach specializes in end-to-end transportation solutions spanning truck, vessel, and air, as well as strategic warehousing, international trade, and custom logistics design.

He is known for building efficient, scalable, supply chain solutions that prioritize transparency, technology, and most importantly, human relationships. Zach’s background began in the public sector, including service as a police officer in central Illinois, and continues through his involvement in emergency management and humanitarian logistics operations.

Outside of work, he enjoys fishing and exploring local coastal spots.
