Here is this morning’s update. Stay weather aware today. Bottom Line Up Front: A Wind Advisory is in effect beginning at 7 AM, lasting through the early afternoon. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) for severe weather remains this afternoon/evening. All hazards (damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, excessive rainfall) remain possible.

What: A Wind Advisory is out for wind gusts up to 50 mph through the morning and early afternoon. Winds will gradually ease as the day progresses. With high winds, expect loose objects to be blown around and hazardous driving conditions. Make sure to secure loose objects outdoors, and use caution while driving, especially in open areas.

Severe storms remain likely (60-80%) this afternoon/evening. The development of showers/storms in northern Missouri could impact the evolution of storms later today, so that trend will continue to be monitored through the morning. Otherwise, uncertainty still remains in exact timing and placement of thunderstorms. Consensus remains that initiation will occur around 3 PM, with storm modes initially being discrete (all hazards are possible) before developing into a line (hazards evolve into primarily damaging wind/embedded tornado threat) that pushes southeast.

Where: For the Wind Advisory, areawide. For severe storms, along a line extending from northeast Missouri towards southeast Kansas. Severe chances decrease further north and west.

When: For the Wind Advisory, beginning at 7 AM and lasting through the afternoon (as late as 3 PM). For severe thunderstorms, beginning at 3 PM and lasting through 8 PM.

‼️⚠️There is an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) of Severe Storms Wednesday for much of Missouri. Expect two rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the first round in the morning.
⚠️ The second round will be in the afternoon into overnight, with the highest chances in northeast Missouri.
⚠️Damaging straight-line wind (up to 70 MPH) is the most likely hazard, along with a lower threat of large hail (up to golf ball size) and a strong tornado (EF-2+) mainly in the early stages of the event. Localized flash flooding is also possible.
⚠️At least some strong or severe storms are expected, but
how far south the strongest storms reach remains uncertain.

Bottom Line Up Front: An Enhanced (Level 3 out of 5) Risk for severe weather remains tomorrow afternoon/evening, with remaining forecast uncertainty regarding exact evolution of storms in the afternoon/evening. All hazards (damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, excessive rainfall) remain possible.

What: Severe storms are likely (60-80%) tomorrow afternoon/evening, with thunderstorm development dependent on the evolution of the near-storm environment. Tomorrow afternoon, if storms are able to develop, all hazards would be possible (damaging wind, large hail, tornadoes) with discrete storms. Later in the day, storms will develop into a line/complex along a cold frontal boundary pushing towards the southeast, with damaging wind/embedded tornadoes becoming the primary threat.

Where: Along a line extending from northeast Missouri towards southeast Kansas. Development expected to occur from east to west, with lower coverage/confidence farther north and west.

When: During the afternoon, the development of discrete storms is possible. By the late afternoon/evening, storms expected to congeal into a line.

Bottom Line Up Front: An Enhanced (Level 3 out of 5) Risk for severe weather remains this afternoon/evening, with continued concerns for excessive rainfall leading to flooding/flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning.

What: A chance (30-50%) of isolated thunderstorms remains this afternoon, with more widespread storms (70-90% chance) occurring this evening. All hazards are possible, including damaging winds up to 80 MPH, hail up to 2.5", tornadoes, and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, especially for areas that have previously seen heavy rainfall this morning.

Where: During the afternoon, primarily northeastern Kansas/northwestern Missouri. By this evening, extending from eastern Kansas/northwestern Missouri, pushing southeastward.

When: Isolated storms may develop in the late afternoon, particularly in NE Kansas and NW Missouri. By the early evening, a line of storms is expected to move through the area from the northwest. Storms are expected to move out of the area and into southern and central Missouri by midnight. Exact timing remains uncertain for initial storms in the early evening. Several rounds of storms are possible beginning late tonight and again on Saturday. A Flood Watch will go into effect for portions of eastern Kansas and western Missouri later this evening. Here's what you need to know:

Overnight Friday into Saturday morning: Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5)

What: Isolated to scattered storms (40-60% chance). The strongest storms could produce up to quarter-sized hail, damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH, and locally heavy rainfall.
Where: Generally south and west, including far southern and southwestern portions of the KC metro
When: After midnight through early Saturday morning
Saturday afternoon and evening: Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5)

What: Widespread storms (70-90% chance). All hazards are possible, including damaging winds up to 80 MPH, hail up to 2.5", tornadoes, and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding.
Where: Much of the area

Pleasant weather is expected today with light winds, sunny skies, and low humidity.

A cold front will push southeast Saturday. Storms will develop across northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas Saturday afternoon and spread southeast through the evening. Large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes are possible. Locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding are also possible.

While the weather is looking great for today (Friday), chances for strong to severe storms return Saturday. All severe hazards are possible including damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and heavy rainfall/flooding. Timing looks to be during the afternoon and evening on Saturday. There remain some uncertainties in the forecast and the risk remains conditional on potential shower and thunderstorm activity Saturday morning.
