There is no greater accomplishment than helping save a life.

Tonight, at the Sault Tribe Board of Directors meeting, we recognized several officers with the Life Saving Award for their decisive actions and commitment to serving our community. When called upon, they relied on their training in CPR and AED use to provide critical care during a life-threatening emergency.

Their professionalism, quick response, and dedication made a difference when it mattered most. We are proud to honor these officers for their outstanding efforts and service. (Officers: Thorne, Skinner, Lubben and Nainan).

This morning, a dog was found in the Sault Tribe Police Department parking lot. The animal has been safely transported to the Sault Animal Shelter on Mack Trail for care and holding.

Bear Safety Reminder for our Communities:

Just a quick reminder that Bears are active in our area and are often looking for easy food. We can help keep bears wild and our families safe by removing things that attract them.

Please remember to:

• Take down bird feeders when bears are active. Bears love bird seed and can smell it from far away.
• Keep garbage in a secure place and only put it outside on pickup day.
• Clean grills after use and store pet food indoors.
• Keep garage doors closed, especially if food, garbage, or other scented items are stored inside.
• Pick up fallen fruit and other food sources around your yard.

When bears find food near homes, they often come back looking for more. By removing these food sources, we help protect our community and the bears that share this land with us.
