Preventing the spread of invasive species starts with you. By taking a few simple steps, you can protect our community and ensure these harmful species do not spread into new areas:

🌿Clean your watercraft, trailers, boots, gear, RVs, and ORVs after each use.
🚤 Drain all bilge, ballast tanks, bait containers, and live wells if you’ve been out on the water.
☀️ Dry all equipment and gear for 5 days before you go to another waterbody.

Eurasian watermilfoil forms large mats of floating vegetation that will shade out native aquatic plants, ruin recreational activities, and can lower property values. This plant can overwinter in frozen lakes and ponds, which makes management difficult.

Given the right conditions, purple loosestrife can rapidly establish and replace native vegetation. This can reduce biodiversity and degrade habitat for birds, amphibians, and fish. As it takes over wetlands, it disrupts water flow and reduces open water areas, making it harder for native species to thrive.

Learn how to ID and report purple loosestrife at:
https://www.michigan.gov/invasives/id-report/plants/aquatic/purple-loosestrife

Lesser celandine is an aggressive plant that can spread to form thick mats in moist habitats. It displaces other plants, reducing habitat quality, and when it goes dormant in late spring, it leaves large patches of apparently bare ground, increasing the risk of erosion and introduction of other invasive species.

Learn how to ID and report this plant at: https://www.michigan.gov/invasives/id-report/plants/herbs/lesser-celandine
