Correction:
The railroad crossing work continues to progress. Today, crews started on Baker Road and are expected to begin Baldwin St. as well. This will leave Pennsylvania Avenue, Bayou Avenue, and Oak Ave. as the only open railroad crossings for access to the east side of the city.

I have also been advised that paving is scheduled to begin this evening on Juniper, Plateau, and Orange.

Please plan ahead over the next several days and expect traffic delays. We understand this is an inconvenience, but these improvements are a necessary part of maintaining our infrastructure and will help make our city safer for years to come.

COMMUNITY UPDATE: VANDALISM TO CITY PROPERTY

The Satsuma Police Department is aware of, and has been actively investigating, recent incidents of vandalism involving City property. These acts are not harmless pranks - they are criminal offenses that damage public facilities, cost taxpayers money, and negatively impact the quality of life in our community.

As a result of the first investigations, multiple juvenile offenders have been identified and criminally charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, a Class A misdemeanor. Under Alabama law, this offense is punishable by up to one (1) year in jail and up to $6,000.00 in fines. In addition to criminal charges, the Satsuma Police Department is pursuing $2,000.00 in restitution related to damages at the Wright Park bathroom facilities.

Because the offenders are juveniles, state law restricts the release of identifying information, and we cannot provide names or further details.

Steele Creek Boardwalk Investigation:

The Satsuma Police Department is currently investigating damage done to the Steele Creek Boardwalk, where a suspect or suspects spray-painted graffiti in multiple locations along the walkway. This offense was reported on January 21, 2026, and is believed to have occurred sometime between January 17, 2026 (daytime) and January 20, 2026 (nighttime).

We appreciate the strong community support. Multiple citizens have offered rewards for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. At this time, those reward offers total more than $1,500.00. The Satsuma Police Department is not involved in collecting or paying any rewards; however, if information provided to SPD results in an arrest, we will ensure the appropriate information is provided to the citizens offering the rewards.

If you have any information - especially security camera or doorbell footage from the area during the timeframe listed above - please contact the Satsuma Police Department at [non-emergency phone number]. If you observe suspicious activity around City facilities, parks, or buildings, call immediately.

We want to assure the citizens of Satsuma that we take these offenses seriously. When offenders are identified, we will pursue charges to the fullest extent allowed by law and seek full restitution for the cost of repairs.

Check Fraud Prevention Notice

The Satsuma Police Department is advising residents to use caution when mailing checks for bill payments.

There is a nationwide problem involving checks being stolen from mailboxes, sold online, altered, and deposited/cashed. Individuals and businesses across the country have been impacted by this type of fraud.

For your safety, residents are strongly encouraged to:

*Avoid placing checks in residential mailboxes for outgoing delivery whenever possible

*Use online or phone payment options if available through your service providers

*Consider mailing checks directly from a secured post office location rather than a curbside mailbox

*Regularly monitor bank statements and account activity

*Verify that checks written were cashed only by the intended recipient

If you notice unauthorized transactions or suspect check fraud, contact your bank immediately and report the incident to the Satsuma Police Department.

The Satsuma Police Department is actively working with federal partners to investigate these crimes and help protect our community.

For the past several years, our Letters to Santa program has operated under the Satsuma Public Safety Department. We are grateful for the tremendous support provided by Mayor Mark Barlow, Satsuma City Council, and City Hall, which have helped us grow our mission of assisting families in need throughout North Mobile County.



Today, we are excited to introduce Blue Sleigh, our new nonprofit organization created by the Police and Fire Departments. Moving forward, Blue Sleigh will oversee the Letters to Santa program and all related activities.
