🚧 Construction Reminder 🚧

Just a reminder that construction begins tomorrow! Please plan accordingly, allow for extra travel time, and use caution when traveling through the area.

Thank you for your patience as work gets underway!

The City of Sartell is excited to begin much-needed roadway improvements on Leander Avenue between Heritage Drive and just south of Scout and Dehler Drives. The project will include pavement rehabilitation, minor roadway widening, and shoulder improvements to create a smoother and safer roadway for all.

Here is what you need to know:
Construction begins September 15

Leander Avenue will be closed to through traffic for approximately one week

Roadway expected to reopen by September 22 (weather permitting)

Advance road closure signs will be installed beginning the week of September 9. Please review the attached project map for construction limits and detour information.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we make these important improvements. We look forward to providing a safer, smoother, and more reliable roadway for our community!

25 Years Later. We Remember.

Twenty-five years ago today, September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a day that forever changed us.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, military members, and countless others who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape it. We remember the families who said goodbye that morning without knowing it would be the last time.

And we remember what followed—a country brought together by grief, courage, service, and an overwhelming willingness to help one another.

For those of us in public safety, September 11 carries a meaning that is difficult to put into words. The 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives that day represent more than numbers. They were husbands and wives, moms and dads, sons and daughters, friends, partners, and coworkers. They answered the call knowing others needed them.

Today, members of Sartell Public Safety team came together to honor their sacrifice and the lives of all those lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years have passed, but our promise remains the same:
We will remember their names.
We will remember their courage.
We will remember their sacrifice.
And we will continue to serve in their honor.

🐾 K9 Kimber Meets Dog: Impossible! 🐾

Our own K9 Kimber and Officer Kari Bonfield recently had the opportunity to meet Matt Beisner, renowned dog behavior specialist and star of National Geographic’s Dog: Impossible! 🐕👮‍♀️

Matt was in Minnesota showing his support for Heroes K9 Odysseys Academy (HK9OA) and took some time to visit Sartell and learn more about how law enforcement agencies are utilizing K9s to serve their communities.

Of course, Kimber was happy to show him that not every police K9 spends the day chasing bad guys! ❤️ As Sartell’s therapy K9, Kimber and Officer Bonfield help provide comfort, support victims and community members, and create positive connections between public safety and the people we serve.

We’re proud of the work Kari and Kimber do and were happy to share a little of the Sartell approach to community policing with Matt.

🎒 School is back in session, and our school zones are busy again!

Whether you’re behind the wheel or heading to school on foot, a little extra patience and attention can make a big difference.

🚗 Drivers — slow down, stay alert, watch for crossing guards and pedestrians, and keep distractions away.

🚸 Students — use crosswalks, look both ways, follow crossing guards, and stay aware of your surroundings.

💡 Remember to use the crosswalk flashers! Push the button to activate the flashing lights, wait for vehicles to stop, look both ways, and continue watching traffic as you cross. Flashers help make pedestrians more visible, but always make sure vehicles have stopped before stepping into the roadway.

Please take an extra minute, slow down, and help us keep Sartell students safe as they travel to and from school each day.

In observance of Labor Day, Sartell Public Safety offices will be closed on Monday, September 7.

Our Police and Fire Divisions will continue to provide emergency response services as usual throughout the holiday.

Regular office hours will resume Tuesday, September 8.

Certified car seat technicians will be available to work one-on-one with parents and caregivers to check car seat installation, answer questions, and help you feel confident that your child is riding safely.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY: KNOW WHAT THE LIGHTS MEAN

Back-to-school season is here! As students begin returning to school next week, different grades will start on different days throughout the week. That means each day will bring more buses, more students at bus stops, and busier morning and afternoon traffic.

Now is a great time to refresh yourself on what those flashing school bus lights mean:

🟡 Yellow flashing lights = SLOW DOWN.
The bus is preparing to stop. Be alert, reduce your speed, and prepare to stop.

🔴 Red flashing lights = STOP.
Drivers must stop at least 20 feet from the bus and remain stopped while the red lights are flashing.

As school routines pick back up, give yourself a little extra time, stay alert around bus stops, and watch for students who may be crossing the road.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Alex Svejkovsky 🌟

This week, we’re highlighting Alex Svejkovsky, a Public Safety Specialist!

Alex has worked in the profession for three years. After spending 10 years working in radio, he was ready for a new career path that would allow him to spend more time with his family.

One of Alex’s favorite parts of his job is getting the opportunity to talk with residents and hear their stories, especially those about growing up in Sartell. For him, the most rewarding part of serving the community is knowing he has made a difference by helping residents find answers to their questions and concerns.

When he’s not at work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristy, and their three kids. You’ll also find him playing sports, coaching, or cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Timberwolves.

🌟EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: DANIEL BIALKE🌟

This week, we’re proud to recognize Daniel Bialke, a Fire Fighter with the Sartell Fire Division who has been serving our community for the past four years.

For Daniel, becoming a firefighter carries a deeply personal meaning. His brother lost his life in the line of duty, inspiring Daniel to follow in his footsteps and continue a legacy of service to his community.

One of the things Daniel enjoys most about being a firefighter is being pushed to continually learn new things. For him, the most rewarding part of the job is having the opportunity to give back and be there for community members during their times of need.

One moment that has especially stayed with Daniel happened after a house fire, when he was able to find the homeowner’s dog alive beneath the rubble—a memorable reminder of the difference firefighters can make even in the most difficult circumstances.

Outside of the fire department, Daniel enjoys spending time with his wife, Amanda, and their four children, Makenna, Kyler, Korra, and Nolan, along with their two dogs and cat. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors.

Daniel sums up what serving with the Sartell Fire Department means to him best: “I feel honored to serve this community and its people on both the good days and the bad days.”
