Stantonsburg-Moyton Volunteer Fire Department St.3 , y'all heard anything else about the Aircraft in Distress call we had together yesterday? Allegedly the plane "crashed" near Pikeville. We haven't heard anything else. Have y'all?

The fire station apron is getting some special attention! Former Fire Chief Carson Cobb saw our previous post and immediately jumped into action. He is currently scraping away, clearing a path for the fire engines and uttered the statement, "Bojangles was closed, so I had to find something to do!"
We thank you Carson for your continued service to the community. And a little help from MCA Excavation Service.

Even though the roads are nearly impassable in and around Saratoga, rest assured that we are ready, willing, and able to respond if needed. Our members worked hard preparing E23 (only a few modifications and with donated materials) for the conditions. Luckily, we've only had a couple calls for service with no reports of injuries or property damage.

Today, Terry Snell and his family stopped by the station to drop off a gift as a gesture of appreciation. About a month ago, they experienced a fire in their home, and our quick response helped lead to a fast knockdown. Moments like this, hearing directly from the people we serve, are what inspire us to keep doing what we do. Thank you to the Snell family for your kindness and continued support

Our hearts are heavy at Sanoca Rural Fire with the loss of three of our friends and loyal supporters.

We send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the Butts family after the sudden loss of Brandon.
Brandon grew up in both the Sanoca and East Nash firehouses — they were truly like second homes to him. He was always a loyal supporter, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Both of his parents have poured countless hours of volunteer work into our communities, giving so much of themselves to help others. Now it’s our turn to lift them up and surround them with love and prayer in the days ahead.

We also mourn the loss of "Billy" O'Briant, uncle of Chief AJ O'Briant and brother of Robin, FD Treasurer.
Billy served in Vietnam and was an avid supporter of his Country and all First Responders. He especially favored the Walstonburg VFD and Sanoca FD where his family served. He would often visit the fire house just to hang and and see what was going on. Fly high Billy, you will be sorely missed!

We heard today that elder Tony Pipkin of Stantonsburg passed away. Tony is Brother of Gary Pipkin and Uncle to younger Tony Pipkin. Gary and son Tony were once members serving our department and we regret to hear of elder Tony's passing. Tony was also a supporter of First Responders and Sanoca FD. We are praying for the Pipkin family as well.

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days.

View William "Billy" Robert O'Briant's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.

We are sharing this because it has happened in Saratoga in the past. The only difference was the Saratoga fire was caused by COOKING OIL. The homeowner had spilled used French fry grease on the floor, cleaned it up with a cotten bath towel, balled the towel up and tossed it in the dirty clothes hamper. A few hours later the hamper was on fire.
Please use caution and take this information seriously!
Remember to check your smoke detectors!

SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION IS REAL

Recently, Horry County Fire Rescue crews ran a structure fire likely caused by a pile of greasy rags in a garage, the pile having ignited on its own without an external heat source.

This is spontaneous combustion, or spontaneous ignition, and more common than you would think.

If you are doing any kind of work with rags or towels mixed with oils, do not throw them in a pile, as they can go up in flames, putting property and lives at risk.

When you're done with greasy or oily rags/towels, spread them out flat, out of direct sunlight, allowing for circulation to dissipate any built-up heat.

Either soak them in water, in a metal container until you can properly dispose of them in accordance with local regulations, or bring them directly to a hazardous waste collection site.

HCFR cares about your safety!
