The evening will feature selected excerpts from Ken Burns’ documentary The American Revolution, followed by a panel discussion with local historians and experts, including Mark O’Rourke, President of the Board of Trustees for the Friends of the New York State Military Museum.

It’s a great opportunity to explore the people, events, and lasting impact of the American Revolution through both film and local historical perspective.

Yesterday, the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery hosted a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony honoring the lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the service members and first responders who answered the call.

Major General (Ret.) Joseph Taluto, Chair of the Friends of the New York State Military Museum’s Global War on Terror Committee, served as a guest speaker for the ceremony. We are grateful for his continued leadership and commitment to ensuring the service and sacrifice of the 9/11 generation are never forgotten.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and all those who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

Today, we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes first look at the new Global War on Terror Exhibit at the New York State Military Museum.

This exhibit preserves the stories, service, and sacrifices of New Yorkers who served during the Global War on Terror and helps ensure that their experiences remain part of our shared history for generations to come.

On this solemn anniversary, we remember September 11. We honor those we lost. And we honor those who served in its aftermath.

Behind the scenes at the New York State Military Museum. The Global War on Terror Exhibit is beginning to take shape.

From unloading the truck to carefully moving exhibit components into the museum, these photos offer an early look at the work underway to bring this important new exhibit to life.

These pieces will become part of an exhibit dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of the New Yorkers who served during the Global War on Terror.

We are honored to recognize retired Major General Joseph Taluto, Chairman of the Friends’ Global War on Terror Committee, who will serve as keynote speaker at the Carry the Load National Day of Service and Remembrance ceremony at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

General Taluto commanded a joint task force of 2,000 service members during New York State’s response to the September 11 attacks and later served in Iraq.

Thank you to the Times Union and Terry Brown for highlighting this important day of remembrance, service and community.

The 6th Annual Veteran & First Responder Su***de Awareness & Prevention Walk brings our community together to remind Veterans, first responders, and their families that support and resources are available.

Join the community Wednesday, September 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Glens Falls City Park for this important event, featuring more than 25 resource booths providing information and support.

Every conversation matters. Every connection matters. Our Veterans and first responders have given so much in service to others, and it is important that our community continues to show up for them.

Join Chris as he brings the stories behind these remarkable photographs to life and helps preserve the experiences of the veterans who served our nation.

Step back into the 1940s and early ’50s during this captivating lunchtime program with retired Associated Press reporter Chris Carola. Discover the remarkable—and little‑known—story of more than 600 photographs of World War II and Korean War service members, all taken inside a popular Mechanicville tavern.

Captured by the tavern’s owner at the bar, these striking images feature men and women from Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and nearby communities, preserving a powerful moment just before or after their military service. Together, they form a deeply personal, community‑centered tribute to the generation that served.

Join us for an engaging talk that brings these faces—and their stories—back to life.

A great day at Saratoga Race Course for Military Day!

The Friends of the New York State Military Museum were proud to spend the day at the track sharing the Museum’s mission, connecting with veterans and their families, and meeting so many people interested in supporting the preservation of New York’s military history.

A special thank you to our volunteers who represented the Friends today, and to the veterans and visitors who stopped by our booth to say hello and learn more. It was especially meaningful to have the opportunity to meet and speak with those who have served our country.

Thank you to Saratoga Race Course for once again recognizing and honoring our military community on this special day.
