The Saratoga Springs Rotary Club was happy to be a part of supporting the Bob Reed Memorial golf tournament this past weekend. Bob was a former CFL and NFL fullback, and also a local Rotarian with a vision to help young people across all demographics and backgrounds. He committed his life to community service, and youth mentorship serving on numerous boards in the local community. Proceeds from this event will go towards the Salvation Army’s Children’s Christmas Gift Program and the Frederick Allen Elks Lodge annual scholarship program. Thank you, Bob, for a life of “Service Above Self”.

Meet Saratoga Springs Rotarian Ben McNutt

I’ve been a Rotarian for a little under a year as part of the Saratoga Springs YMCA staff. Before moving back to Saratoga County to work with the Y in August, 2025 I spent most of the previous 6 years in Washington, D.C., where I attended American University and then worked in government and public policy roles. I run the Youth and Government program at the Saratoga YMCA where I work to teach young people the value of civics and community service.

I was interested in being involved with Rotary to give back to my community and to meet other community-minded leaders.

Listening to the guest speakers at our luncheons and the impact their organizations have both locally and internationally – and the impact Rotary has in supporting their work in our community – has been really impactful. I was especially moved by the presentation by Gift of Life.

Outside of work and rotary I volunteer for organizations dedicated to youth leadership and enjoy playing soccer to stay active.

I would encourage someone in the community interested in joining Rotary to have a conversation with one of our members and consider joining one of our luncheons – Rotary is a great forum to get connected with other community leaders and give back to the community while you are at it.

Meet Saratoga Springs Rotary Club member Martha O’Leary

Tell us a little about yourself (profession, career, family, interests).

I am the Director of Brand Communications and Marketing at Skidmore College. Family. I’m married to David Ernst and we have two very precious Scottish Fold indoor cats, Cookie and Buster. Together we love the outdoors, skiing, fishing, and spending as much time as possible in the Adirondacks.

What was appealing to you about the Rotary Club, why did you join?
I joined on Skidmore’s behalf but love being able to give back to the community in a meaningful way. I’m inspired by the selflessness and dedication of my fellow Rotarians, it is unbelievable to me how much they do in the name of service.

With regards to Rotary, what has been your best memory?
The people showing up and donating two car-loads of items for the Wellspring Irish Night event back in March.

What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I love food.

What could others gain from being a Rotarian, why join?
It’s a great way to get involved, meet incredible people, and make someone’s day a little better and/or easier.

Please come out to support this worthy cause.
