Class of 2020,

As this unique school year comes to a close, I first and foremost hope that your families and loved ones are safe. Next I would like to congratulate you all on completing your first major long term goal of your lives! There will be many more goals you accomplish in the future.

This year has been especially difficult for you all, many of you graduating with feelings of trepidation as you look at a drastically different College landscape that confronts you this fall.

Many of you may be looking for other options as what you anticipated. Some of you may now choose to stay local as opposed to going out of state to school, maybe you’re deciding to take a gap year, or maybe you’re now considering alternative options.

OVERVIEW

The wheeled vehicle mechanic is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance and recovery operations on wheeled vehicles and associated items, as well as heavy-wheeled vehicles and select armored vehicles.

JOB DUTIES

Maintain wheeled vehicles, their associated trailers and material handling equipment systems
Inspect, service, maintain, repair, replace, adjust and test of wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment systems, subsystems and components
Service automotive electrical systems, including wiring harness, starting and charging systems
Perform wheeled vehicle recovery operations.

TRAINING

Job training for a wheeled vehicle mechanic requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom, and part takes place in the field.
