Last Saturday, May 2nd, members of the Saratoga Springs Recreation Department had the honor of attending the PSB Derby Day for a Cause Gala at the beautiful Canfield Casino. It was an incredible evening celebrating an organization that continues to make a lasting impact throughout Saratoga and the Capital District. 💙

PSB Transitions of Saratoga is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families in crisis, with a core mission centered around keeping children connected to their community. The organization proudly honors the legacy of the late Patricia Sweeney Bergin, a beloved former school social worker in Saratoga who dedicated her life to removing barriers that prevented children and families from fully participating in their community. We are truly honored to play a small role in continuing that legacy.

Beginning last year, the Saratoga Rec Department partnered with PSB Transitions of Saratoga to help ensure children can participate in sports programming without barriers. Thanks to their generous support, we have been able to expand our “Try Sports for Free” program, provide sports equipment to local children, and create a free after-school Rec Sports Club that kids can attend each week.

We cannot thank PSB enough for all they do for our community and for their continued generosity toward the Rec Center. It’s because of organizations like PSB that we can help channel children’s imagination, energy, and potential into the safe, positive outlet of sports.

We are also incredibly excited to continue working alongside PSB over the next few years as we expand programs, create new opportunities, and continue breaking down barriers that prevent children from participating in their community.

Tomorrow (Sunday 3/29) is your FINAL day for public skate sessions at the Saratoga Ice Rinks before we take a seasonal break! Don’t miss your chance to hit the ice one more time before we close things out until July.

Here’s what’s on deck for the day:
🏒 Family Stick: 3:00–4:45 PM
⛸️ Open Public Skate: 3:00–5:15 PM
🏒 Open Stick: 5:30–7:00 PM

Our very first Pickleball 101 workshop was an absolute hit! From first serves to friendly rallies, participants jumped right in and had a blast learning the game.

A huge shoutout to our Program Coordinator and Pickleball Coordinator, Scott Stewart, for leading an awesome session—breaking down the basics, building confidence, and making it fun every step of the way. By the end of the hour, players walked away not just understanding the game, but ready to get out there and PLAY! 🙌

What a day at Try Sports: Lacrosse! 🥍

This past Saturday (3/7), our Try Sports: Lacrosse event with Saratoga Youth Lacrosse was a huge success! We were thrilled to see so many young athletes come out to learn the game—and even more exciting, we more than doubled our participation from last year! 🙌

A major highlight of the day was our raffle drawing, which everyone loved! 🎟️ The lacrosse sticks we raffled off were made possible thanks to funding from PSB Transitions of Saratoga and Saratoga Youth Lacrosse, helping us give more kids the chance to get involved in the sport.

We want to give a big THANK YOU to the dedicated lacrosse coaches and high school volunteers who shared their time and passion for the game, and of course to all the families and participants who came out and made the event so special. Your energy is what makes these events so great! 💙

• Must be 16 years old
• Starting pay: $16.50/hour
• Camp runs: 6/29–8/21, some flexibility with scheduling available
• Days packed with field trips, awesome vendors, games, laughs, and unforgettable memories
• Build amazing relationships with campers and make a real impact!

🌟 Counselor in Training (CIT) Program
• Must be 15 years old
• Runs in one-week intervals from 7/6–8/14
• Unpaid position
• A great way to gain experience, leadership skills, and be part of the camp fun

Looking for something active, fun, and FREE after school? Our Rec Sports Club kicks off today and runs all spring long! 🙌

Kids ages 8–14 will enjoy an after-school snack, then jump right into a mix of sports, gym games, team challenges, and tons of high-energy fun with our Rec staff. When the sunshine sticks around, we’ll take the action outside, too! ☀️🏀

This opportunity is completely FREE thanks to the generous support of PSB Transitions of Saratoga — making it open to anyone interested.

🚨 Important: This is not a drop-in program. Registration is required to participate. Spots are limited!
